The most expensive materials on the planet (10 photos)
Buying things made from these materials can ruin you.
What is the material? It is "the substance or mixture of substances of which an object is composed." There are materials that are simply fabulous.
Platinum
The Spanish conquistadors were the first to become acquainted with platinum back in the mid-16th century. For a long time, platinum was valued lower than silver, due to the fact that it could not be melted down and simply did not find use for a long time.
Now the leaders in production are South Africa. The material is used in the weapons, jewelry and medical industries.
Now the cost of platinum is no more than 28-30 dollars per gram.
White truffle
These mushrooms are the most expensive. They have a strong aroma and pigs and trained dogs are used to search for these mushrooms. Most of them are in Spain, Croatia, southern Germany, France, Portugal, and Italy.
The diameter varies from 1 to 20 cm, the weight ranges from 5 to 1500 g. Yes, the underground mushroom can weigh 1.5 kg. The price of the truffle itself depends on the type of mushroom (white is more expensive than black) and its weight. The most expensive truffle is the white truffle from Alba, on the border with Piedmont. Mushrooms from these regions are sold for 1.5-7.5 thousand euros (133 - 665 tr.) per kilogram. More expensive than black caviar and gold.
Taaffeit
In November 1945, gemologist Edward Charles Richard Taaffe studied spinel. And one of the specimens was significantly different from the others.
The laboratory determined the unique physical and chemical properties of the stone. Today it is mined in Sri Lanka and Tanzania. It is soft for a gemstone, but is only used in jewelry making. The cost of taaffeit ranges from 2.5 to 20 thousand dollars (182 thousand rubles - 1.4 million rubles) per gram, or from 500 to 4 thousand dollars (36 thousand rubles -292 thousand rubles) per carat=0.2 grams.
Beluga caviar
For a kilogram of the most expensive product of the animal world, Golden caviar will have to pay 18,500 euros per kilogram. This is the price of diamond albino beluga caviar, which is sometimes exported from Iran. The cost is also due to the fact that albino belugas spawn their golden caviar very rarely - once every hundred years.
No more than ten kg of such caviar may appear in Europe per year. Well, where there is an expensive product, there is also expensive packaging: in Iran they decided to package it in jars made of pure gold. To date, caviar has been sold out for 4 years in advance.
Gold
The most expensive gold is traditional yellow 999, since it contains 99.9% natural aurum, and only 0.1% is impurities. The sample is valued at 24 carats and is rare in jewelry because it is dull in color and soft in consistency.
The price of yellow gold is $56 per gram.
Rhodium
It was discovered in England in 1803. A hard noble metal, it has powerful reflective properties and is resistant to corrosion and oxidation. Every year, only 30 tons of rhodium are mined worldwide, which is used to make mirrors and headlights, in the chemical and automotive industries.
The cost of rhodium has increased significantly recently and fluctuates between 185 -190 dollars (13.5 tr. - 13.8 tr.) per gram.
Painite
Painite was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the rarest gemstone. As of 2005, there were only 18 known specimens, all of which have been described and numbered. Of these, there were only 3 pure red painites and the heaviest was the fifth specimen, which weighed 2.54 carats.
Today, most of the crystals are in the hands of private collectors, while the rest has been given to the British Natural History Museum, the Gem Research Laboratory in Switzerland and the Gemological Institute of the United States.
Its value is difficult to estimate, because there is not a single offer for sale. But mineralogists believe that if it entered the market, its price would start at $300,000 per gram.
Saffron
This is the most expensive spice. Today you can buy it for 5.5 - 6 thousand dollars. One of the reasons for such a high cost is complex production. Saffron does not grow on its own - it is extracted from the purple crocus, which blooms only two weeks a year and the duration of flowering for each individual flower is no longer than three days. That is, you need to collect the stamens at dawn, on the first day of flowering, and dry them quickly. This is the only way the finished spice will be of high quality.
Nephritis
Its unique feature is that when it is struck, it produces a melodious sound. It is two times stronger than steel and five times stronger than granite - it is almost impossible to break or split.
Today, jade costs between $5 and $25 for a small processed stone.
