The most unusual racing games on the Sega mega drive 2 console (10 photos)
There were a lot of interesting racing games released on the Sega Mega drive 2 console, but today I would like to remember the unusual games that stood out from the general set with their uniqueness.
Road Rush
The "Road Rash" series of games (3 parts) is perhaps the best series of games on the Sega mega drive 2 console related to motorcycles. And yes, these were not just races, but a real hack on the road, because we not only had to come first at any cost, even by getting rid of competitors by pushing with our feet, hitting with a club or swinging a chain. And what a shame it was when they threw us off the motorcycle. I had to spend extra time just to get to this motorcycle.
Playing this game, gamers of the 90s were charged with adrenaline and were completely immersed in the gameplay, and the wonderful upbeat background music contributed to this even more.
Additional excitement was added by the pumping system, that is, the purchase of new motorcycles.
And of course, it’s worth noting the funny cutscenes after a victory, defeat or departure from the track.
Micromachines
A series of games about microcars also became loved by many gamers in the 90s. The very idea of racing toy cars on surfaces such as a table with stationery items or a bathtub is simply brilliant.
The most important thing is to drive quickly, but carefully, so as not to fly off the surface or from the bridge, which is presented in the form of an ordinary stationery ruler.
And of course, it should be noted that in addition to micro-cars, it was possible to organize races on micro-helicopters and micro-boats.
Rock'n roll racing
This selection would not be complete without the cult game "Rock'n roll racing" from Blizzard. These isometric races between various alien races have won the hearts of a huge number of gamers.
The game was amazing in everything: excellent graphics for that time, eliminating opponents with shots and traps, killer comments, the ability to upgrade and buy a new car.
Well, I would also like to separately note the powerful soundtrack, consisting of iconic rock'n'roll songs.
Virtual Racing
Judging by the gameplay, the game "Virtual Racing" is a standard racing game with circles, without upgrades or any interesting features.
But its uniqueness lay elsewhere. This game was the first and probably the only game in the "Racing" genre that was released in full 3D format without pseudo-3D graphics.
Initially, no one could have thought that such a game could be transferred to an ordinary home 16-bit Sega, since the hardware of Sega itself did not allow this. But in 1994, it became possible to create a separate cartridge in an enlarged special case, where the Sega Virtua processor was installed on a new chip, which made it possible to play this 3D miracle on Sega home consoles.
True, the price of this cartridge turned out to be very high, which is why the game was not bought so often.
What racing games were your favorite on the Sega mega drive 2?
