The sci-fi action film "Destroyer", released in 1993, tells the story of the confrontation between a policeman and a terrorist. They were both frozen for 50 years before resuming their fight in 2032.

Here are some interesting facts about this film, as well as interesting footage from the filming.

1. Initially, such actors as Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal were considered for the main roles, but both of them refused. As a result, the roles went to Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes.

By the way, after Stallone was approved for the lead role, he suggested casting his friend Jackie Chan in the role of the villain Simon Phoenix. But Jackie Chan refused this offer because he was afraid that his Asian audience would not like him playing a villain.

2. This film became a kind of prediction for the political career of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film mentions that at the time Spartan was frozen, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the President of the United States. Let me remind you that less than 10 years later, Schwarzenegger became the governor of California.

3. One of the main banter in the film is the use of special shells as toilet paper, which would be unacceptable and incomprehensible to the defrosted John Spartan. Since then, people have built many theories about how these shells should work.

Over time, the film's screenwriter explained that shells should be used like chopsticks. But I would not like to describe this process, especially since it still seems like a very stupid alternative to toilet paper.

4. The film mentions that John Spartan has an adult daughter. Moreover, scenes of the reunion of father and daughter were even filmed. But they never made it into the final version, remaining only on the editing table.

5. Hungarian science fiction writer Nemere Istvan accused the film "Destroyer" of plagiarism, saying that it exactly repeats the concept of his book "Struggle of the Dead", where a certain policeman and a terrorist are frozen, after which they are unfrozen in the future, where and their struggle continues.

But despite this, the writer decided not to sue, since he did not have money for a lawyer, and he understood perfectly well that he could not compete with Hollywood.

6. The game "Destroyer" was released on the Sega Mega Drive 2 console, repeating the plot of the film. We are given control of John Spartan, who, like in the film, must confront Simon Phoenix. By the way, a very interesting and cheerful game.

7. Wesley Snipes really disliked the image of Simon Phoenix, in particular his yellow hair. Therefore, when the filming of the film “Destroyer” was completed, the actor immediately shaved his head.

But basketball player Dennis Rodman really liked this image, which is why he dyed his hair yellow.

8. The hardest thing for Sylvester Stallone was the freezing scene at the beginning of the film. Not only did the actor have to be naked for several hours, which caused some inconvenience (although Stallone has experience in 18+ films), but to all this was added the claustrophobia from which the actor suffered. And that’s not counting the fact that he was also a little afraid of drowning.

After finishing filming this scene, Stallone described the whole thing as the worst five hours of his life, from which he was terrified.

9. The film was originally planned to take place immediately in the future, starting from the moment of freezing. But in the end, the writer decided that it would be much more interesting to show the sworn enemies in their world before they get to the future.

10. Wesley Snipes has a fifth dan black belt in karate, and from an early youth he was also interested in other martial arts, so everything was so perfect with his fighting technique that the cameras could not record his super-fast strikes, which is why the image of his limbs during the impacts it simply blurred. In order to film the fight scenes properly, Snipes had to artificially slow down his punches.

11. The dress made of precious stones, which was worn by Sandra Bullock’s character, weighed as much as 18 kilograms, which caused discomfort to the actress.

12. During the filming of the film, Sandra Bullock and Sylvester Stallone became very close friends (without intimacy). Sandra was so comfortable with Sly that she perceived him as an older brother. But Sylvester, being a golf fan, gladly invited his colleague to play golf. According to Bullock, Sly would knock on her trailer in the middle of the night and invite her to play golf.

13. With a budget of $57 million, the film "Destroyer" grossed $159 million worldwide, which can be considered a success.

14. Those very cars of the future were not created from scratch for the film. These were prototypes (concept cars) of General Motors cars. After filming was completed, the cars were returned to the company.

15. Sanda Bullock's character's name is Lenina Huxley. This is a reference to the writer Aldous Huxley, who wrote the novel Brave New World, and also a reference to the heroine of this novel, Lenina Crowley.

16. In Kuwait, the film was released under the title "Rambo the Destroyer." The distributors decided to take this step because the Rambo series of films performed well at the box office in this country.

17. Simon Phoenix's armor was made from car tire treads.
