10 interesting facts about Predators that you should definitely know (12 photos)
The image of the alien hunter is perfectly developed - the Predator is scary and dangerous, but at the same time arouses interest and respect. The universe of this character is no longer limited to movie screens; there are other sources of information about him: comics, books, games, and so on.
I propose to find out the most interesting information that Predators are hiding from us. First, let's look at the bright in-story moments of the franchise (the whole, not just a series of films), and then move on to other interesting facts.
What are the Predators hiding from us?
There is a lot of different information about alien hunters, which, as mentioned above, is not limited to the film franchise. However, you can find a lot of interesting things in films if you look carefully.
Their race has a name
Perhaps the audience didn’t need this, and so when the word “Predator” is said, a fashionable reptile with dreadlocks and good weapons appears before their eyes. However, it is clear that this is the human name for the alien hunters, and the real name of their race was given to us in the comic book "Aliens vs. Predator" in 1990. So, these are Yautja from a distant planet called Yautja Prime.
Predator lifestyle
Yautja are a race of warriors, with a strict internal hierarchy, structure and code of rules. The lowest ranks are young warriors who have not yet participated in the hunt, the most privileged are those who have been hunting for years, and during this time they have committed many kills. Their code of honor prohibits killing unarmed people, and defeat for them is a shame that can only be washed away by self-destruction.
The most ideal opponents
The most terrible killing machine that our race of warriors has come across are the xenomorphs. A fight with them is worthy of respect; it is not for nothing that young Yautja are forced to take exams when fighting precisely such opponents. In principle, hunting grounds for these purposes can be seen in the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator.
Strange relationships with people
Already in Alien vs. Predator, it is clear that during the Mayan times, the Yautja had already visited Earth, and people considered them gods for their technological perfection. It seems that this alone, and the difference in physical parameters, is enough to not consider a person an object for hunting. But no, Yautja hunts him too, because thanks to intelligence and ingenuity, a person becomes a worthy opponent.
But there are other sides to contact. For example, in a 2005 game called Predator: Concrete Jungle, one character is given Predator blood to increase his lifespan. But that's not the weirdest thing! In the Alien vs. Predator series, there is a woman named Machiko Noguchi who so impresses an alien hunter with her fighting abilities that he invites her to join the Yautja clan. Then she even begins to want to have a child with the Predator, but that's a completely different story.
They had many opponents
Since 1987, a simply incredible number of comics about Predators have been released. For example, in 1996, Dark Horse Comics and DC created some strange battles that pitted the Yautja against Superman, Batman, and Tarzan. Honestly, I don't want to know more about it, it's too weird.
Feminism won
Did you know that the Yautja clan also has female hunters? Moreover, they not only do not lose to men in intelligence, strength, or physical endurance, but also surpass them in prudence, which makes them more successful. They are also capable of throwing their male across the room, they have such an interesting feature during mating. Huntresses have a fairly large presence in comics, especially Aliens vs. Predator, Witchblade, and Darkness.
Outside the franchise
Now let's move on to facts that do not directly relate to the plot of the Predator films, but are still very interesting to know about.
The Predator should have been completely different
Initially, the alien hunter was supposed to look completely different, and an actor unknown at that time named Jean-Claude Van Damme was invited to play his role. This option is shallow for many reasons. Firstly, Van Damme himself did not want to star in a film where his face would not be visible, because he wanted to become a recognizable actor. Secondly, the creators felt that the tiny enemy would look a little pathetic compared to the pumped-up Arnold Schwarzenegger.
How the new image of the Predator appeared
Stan Winston could work miracles even with a small budget, and not only “The Terminator”, but also “The Predator” was proof of this. As Van Damme's character was cancelled, a new suit for the alien hunter had to be quickly developed. The first feature Stan wanted to see in the updated Predator design was the dreadlocks, which he liked in one image of a Rastafarian warrior. Winston later showed various sketches to James Cameron. He appreciated one of them, adding that he would really like the mandibles. Winston listened, and the now famous appearance was born.
Predators have the coolest fan base
As for canon and non-canon, not only in the film series, but also including other materials, these guys will explain even, perhaps, more clearly than Star Wars fans. In addition, they organize simply gorgeous gatherings in Yauja costumes in different countries of the world. And, admittedly, it takes them a lot of time and money to create these costumes.
There really are Predators on Earth!
This fact is new to me, which is probably why I found it the most interesting. In 2012, a new species of spider with characteristic mandibles that resembled alien hunters was found in the Brazilian jungle. Without thinking twice they were named Predatoroonops Schwarzeneggeri. A telling title, isn't it?
