One of the most iconic action actors of the 90s is the incomparable Arnold Schwarzenegger. Most of the films of that time with his participation were hits, which cannot be said about the 8-bit games that were released based on these very films.
Terminator 2
I'll start with perhaps the most famous game, namely "Terminator 2". Of course, it can hardly be called a hit, but nevertheless, it was at least remembered by gamers of the 90s, and in general it was quite good, which cannot be said about the other games with “Iron Arnie”.
The player is given control of the T-800 itself, which must save John Connor from the sent T-1000. The plot of the game fully corresponds to the events of the film.
At the first level, the T-800 does not have any weapons, so it has to hit enemies with its fists. But at subsequent levels he will get hold of a shotgun and even a minigun. True, you will still have to defeat the T-100 with your fists.
The game has only 4 levels, each of which has its own goal. Only the second level differs in style from the rest, since the player will have to ride a motorcycle, shoot back from a truck catching up with him, and also overcome various obstacles.
Predator
Despite the fact that the game "Predator" was created based on the film of the same name, nothing here except the screensaver resembles the film. Of course, we are given control of the hero of Arnold Schwarzenegger (Dutch). But if in the film there was only one alien organism, then in the game there are many more.
Basically, the game takes place in platformer mode, but periodically the hero has to go through a boss battle in an enlarged mode.
During the game, the hero will have to fight with a variety of enemies, including rebels, scorpions and a bunch of different alien organisms. The player's arsenal includes both fists and a variety of weapons that operate at a distance.
As for the game itself, it is quite boring and dull, and the graphics in it leave much to be desired.
Last action hero
The game "Last Action Hero" was based on the film of the same name. We get to play as the action hero Jack Slater, who deals with his enemies with his bare fists. No, seriously, there aren’t even any weapons in this game, and for some reason Jack Slater himself wears dark glasses, although there was no hint of them in the film.
Although, as it turned out, the game (judging by the available sprites) was supposed to have some additional weapons, but for some reason they were not included in the game. And as it turned out, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was the executive producer of the game, personally insisted on this. It was he who decided that Jack Slater should get rid of enemies with his bare hands, so additional weapons were not included in the game.
Despite the fact that the game was released in 1993, it turned out to be quite boring and uninteresting.
Total reccal (Remember everything)
Well, we also shouldn’t forget about the game “Total Recall,” which turned out to be very strange, to say the least.
We again have to play as the character of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who for some reason walks around in some kind of green uniform, moving his powerful bulging chest.
As in other games, at first we will have to destroy manually. Although later Quaid will still acquire a firearm.
Overall, the game based on the movie “Total Recall” is again not impressive. Both the graphics and gameplay here are very dull, and the music does not fit into the framework of this game at all.
But there is still an explanation for the music. Although the game's creators had the rights to use the story and characters, they did not have the rights to use the original musical themes. Although, if you delve into the sounds of the Total Recall game, you can find an original motif from the film, which was never included in the game.
