How the film "Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls" was filmed: interesting facts about the film (12 photos + 1 video)
In 1995, the second part of the film "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" was released with the subtitle "When Nature Calls." The main role in the film was again played by the sparkling Jim Carrey, but the action of the film moved from the bustle of the city to Africa, where a canine detective had to find a stolen white bat.
And today I would like to tell you some interesting facts about this film, as well as show a few shots from the filming of this film.
1. Initially, Jim Carrey did not want to star in this film. There were a lot of things in the plot that Ace didn't like, including the way the natives were portrayed in the film. In addition, he was afraid of bats and did not want to be in the same frame with them. By the way, his character is also afraid of bats. But in the end, he still had to star in this film, since he was bound by contractual obligations.
But due to the fact that Jim Carrey was filming through “I don’t want”, this caused some difficulties during filming.
2. The Farrelly brothers, who directed the film “Dumb and Dumber”, were offered to become directors of the second part of the film about Ace Ventura, but they refused, because they felt that they were not the ones who could competently direct such a film.
As a result, the post of director was taken by Tom DeCerchio, who, however, left this post almost immediately after the start of the film. As a result, the director was the scriptwriter Steve Oedekerk, who also worked on the jokes for the first part of the film together with Jim Carrey.
Steve Oedekerk
3. Director Steve Oedekerk hates hunting for fun, so artificial heads of fauna were used in the shot with the heads of animals hanging on the wall in the room.
4. By the way, one more thing about bats. As you already know, Ace Ventura hates bats. But around the same time, he played the Riddler in the film "Batman Forever", where he was the enemy of Batman, that is, the man-bat.
5. The song "Chicky bang" that Ace sang in the car appeared in the film completely by accident. Jim Carrey simply forgot his line and began to sing the song, grimacing in his usual manner. But the director liked this move so much that he decided to insert this particular scene into the final version of the film.
6. For a long time, Ace Ventura 2 was the only sequel starring Jim Carrey. Only in 2014, Kerry again starred in the sequel. This time it was the comedy Dumb and Dumber 2.
7. In one scene, Ace Ventura puts a zucchini on his fingers. This is Jim Carrey's personal whim. He really wanted to make a reference to Freddy Krueger.
8. The film's budget was $30 million, with $15 million (exactly half) going to Jim Carrey as a fee. Let me remind you that for the first film he received only 350 thousand dollars. Jim was advised to demand such a fee by his friend Steve Oedekerk, who at that time was not yet the director of this film.
The film grossed $212.3 million, which is a very good result. Therefore, the investment in Jim Carrey paid off with interest.
9. In the very first episode, where Ace tries to save the raccoon, the opening scene from the film "Cliffhanger" (1993) with Sylvester Stallone is parodied. True, there was a girl there instead of a raccoon.
10. For a long time, Jim Carrey was persuaded to star in the third part of the film, but he flatly refused. He even regretted starring in the second part. But at that time he could not refuse due to contractual obligations. And since there were no more obligations, Kerry now had a free hand.
But in 2009, a strange sequel was released, called “Ace Ventura Jr.,” where it was already about a child. But in the end, the film became a failure, and critics accused it that the creators made the film only to cash in on the name of the main character and the success of the first two parts.
