9 interesting facts about the film "Major Payne" that many people don't know (11 photos + 1 video)
In 1995, the killer comedy “Major Payne” was released about a hardened, cruel warrior who, by the will of fate, ends up working as an officer-educator in a cadet school.
1. Surely you know that Damon Wines, who played Major Payne, is the brother of actors Sean, Marlon Wines and Keenen Wayans.
But in fact, there are many more members of this family, and almost all of them in one way or another connected their careers with cinema and show business. But that's not what this is about. In the movie Major Payne, one of the cadets who called Payne brother was played by Damien Dante Wayans, who is Damon Wayans' nephew.
2. In order to get used to the role of Major Payne, Damon Wayans underwent special military training under the personal supervision of a US Marine Corps instructor. According to him, it was because of this that he brought Payne’s trademark gait and habit of approaching the cadets face to face to the screen.
3. At the end of the film, Payne calls the blind rookie cadet Ace Ventura because he came with a dog. It's actually an improvisation by Damon Wines. There was no such phrase in the script. And what’s most interesting is that he and Jim Carrey became very good friends during the filming of the series “In Bright Colors.”
By the way, I also recommend that you read my article about how the movie “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” was filmed.
4. The role of the biker who was hired by the cadets to teach Payne a lesson was played by the famous wrestler Scott Bigelow, known by his nickname Bam Bam Bigelow.
By the way, you could play for him in the game "WWF Wrestlemania" on the Sega mega drive 2. You can read about interesting facts about this game in my separate article.
5. The scene at the beginning of the film where Payne gets crushed in the hotel because he was written off is a reference to the movie Apocalypse Now, which had a similar scene.
6. The film "Major Payne" is a loose remake of the film "The Private Wars of Major Benson." It is noteworthy that Major Payne's own name is Benson.
7. The main character's last name is spelled "Payne", but it sounds the same as the word "Pain". This is essentially a reference to the essence of the Major.
8. One of the most memorable moments in the film is the scene where Major Payne tells Tiger Cub the story about the Little Engine That Could. It is noteworthy that such a fairy tale really exists. It was published in the first half of the 20th century, but the plot was somewhat different.
According to the plot of this tale, a long-distance train could not pass through the mountain, so he began to ask powerful locomotives to help him, but they found hundreds of reasons to refuse him. And only a small engine agreed to help the train, and he managed to make the train cross the mountain. That is, in essence, the book is about how, thanks to your perseverance, you can achieve any goals, even those that seem unattainable at first glance.
True, Payne told his interpretation of this book, sprinkling into his story a story from his cruel military past, and then completely forgetting about the train.
9. The budget of the film was 15 million dollars, and the fees were 30 million. Considering that, on average, film distributors take 50% of the profits, we can say that the film broke even.
