12 most anticipated films of 2023, among which there is not a single comic book movie (13 photos)
And here's what to expect - it turns out quite well!
Having summed up 2022 in terms of the best and worst films, it's time to take a look at what awaits us in 2023.
But first, it’s worth noting that the current, ending year has been extremely unsuccessful for Marvel Studios, which released a very poorly received fourth phase of its cinematic universe, and, if not for Batman, it would have been the same for DC Studios. This is far from the end of the era of superhero cinema, but quite a dramatic shift in this direction.
That's why we decided to take a look at the biggest upcoming hits of 2023 without the comic book movies.
Super Mario Bros. Movie
Release date: March 24.
It's actually a cartoon, but it's probably even better this way. The most famous mushroom builder in history will go through all the plots of the Super Mario series in one full-length adventure. There will be Luigi, Bowser, and Princess Peach, as well as characteristic game sounds and that famous melody.
Napoleon
Release date: April 14.
Joaquin Phoenix will play Napoleon Bonaparte in Ridley Scott's film. It's going to be epic in scope with lots of battle scenes. Finally, someone is making Stanley Kubrick's dream come true.
Mermaid
Release date: May 25.
Even those who didn’t like the choice of actress Halle Bailey for the role of Ariel are looking forward to this film. Everyone is interested to know whether the creators can make a truly worthwhile movie or whether a new “Mulan” awaits us. The role of King Triton will be played by Javier Bardem, and the villainess Ursula will be Melissa McCarthy.
Elemental
Release date: June 16.
A new cartoon from Pixar that will once again tell us the story of completely unexpected characters. This time the heroes are living embodiments of the four primary elements: fire, water, air and earth. Here's what is written about "Elemental" on the studio's website:
In a city where the representatives of fire, water, earth and air live together, a fiery young woman and an adrift guy are about to discover something elemental: how much they actually have in common.
Indiana Jones and the Clock of Doom
Release date: June 28.
Return of Indy after 14 years! 80-year-old Harrison Ford will once again swing the lasso and go on an adventure for the fifth time. The film will feature flashbacks, where we will see a rejuvenated Ford (as in the frame). The actor himself admitted that this technology even scares him a little.
It's worth noting that of all the classic franchises starring Ford, this is his favorite.
Mission Impossible: Deadly Reckoning. Part 1
Release date: July 14.
The final part of Ethan Hunt's adventures has been divided into two parts, and we will soon see the first. These will be the 7th and 8th films in Tom Cruise's favorite franchise, who even jumped off a cliff on a motorcycle for it.
Oppenheimer
Release date: July 21.
Christopher Nolan's new film. This is where the explanation can end. But it is also important to note that the new blockbuster about Robert Oppenheimer, the creator of the atomic bomb, will bring together such actors as Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt, Gary Oldman, Matt Damon and Kenneth Branagh.
Potentially the best film of next year.
Barbie
Release date: July 21.
Considering that the film about the world's most famous children's doll was directed by Greta Gerwig (author of Lady Bird and Little Women), we are in for a non-children's tragicomedy movie. Well, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling are also an excellent bait for the viewer.
Dune: Part Two
Release date: November 3.
The first part of "Dune" turned out to be so good that it is impossible not to wait for the sequel. The film especially highlighted the scale of events, which should only increase in the sequel.
Willy Wonka
Release date: December 15th.
A little more Timothee Chalamet at the end of the year. The film will tell the story of young Wonka and show how his famous factory was opened. Rowan Atkinson will play one of the roles in the film.
Killers of the Flower Moon
Approximate release time: May 2023.
We were waiting for it this year, but Martin Scorsese's new film with Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert de Niro is in no hurry to hit the screens. A detective story set in the 1920s with FBI agents working undercover in an Osage Indian settlement - of course, we'll wait a little longer, because this is a must-see!
Murderer
Estimated release time: sometime in 2023.
David Fincher's new thriller about a hitman who begins to feel remorse for his crimes. Starring Michael Fassbender and Tilda Swinton. The latter will apparently play the role of a detective who is on the trail of a conscientious killer.
