“From the worst to the best”: TOP 10 films about Spider-Man from Empire magazine (10 photos)
People love to argue with each other and split into several opposing “camps”. Details, halftones and nuances are not taken into account. There is only ultimate truth and total delusion. And the topic of discussion always begins with the phrase “Who or what is better.” iOS or Android, XBOX or Sony PlayStation, okroshka with kvass or kefir, and so on. Long-running film franchises, of course, always raise heated debates. Take Spider-Man for example. The older generation is screaming that there is only Sam Raimi's trilogy with Tobey Maguire. Young people prefer the trilogy with Tom Holond. And between them flounder fans of the duology with Andrew Garfield. Journalists from the authoritative British film publication Empire decided to add fuel to the fire and burst into this dispute with their ratings. They've compiled a list of Spider-Man movies and ranked them all from worst to best.
10th place: The Amazing Spider-Man: High Voltage (2014)
At the very bottom is the sequel to the film with Andrew Garfield and probably the most daring ending in the entire ten.
9th place: Spider-Man 3: Enemy in Reflection (2007)
The most meme Spider-Man movie with three villains. At one time, Sam Raimi's threequel was received rather coolly, but over time it gained almost cult status. Including due to those scenes that were destroyed by critics at the time of release.
8th place: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)
Films with Andrew Garfield are the first to go away. "The Amazing Spider-Man" showed us a different Peter Parker - a completely self-confident young man, passionate about science, who was not at all drawn to the status of a loser, as was the case with Peter Maguire. However, neither this circumstance nor the performances of Garfield and Emma Stone saved the film from a less than brilliant plot. The same can be said about the sequel.
7th place: Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)
And here is another sequel - a trilogy with Tom Holland. This is probably the most bland and therefore unremarkable film on the entire list.
6th place: Spider-Man (2002)
Already a classic of superhero cinema. The first film with Tobey Maguire, which shows us the most detailed story of the transformation of an unlucky school nerd into the coolest guy in New York (in the first films of other versions, Peter's backstory was deliberately shortened).
The film went down in history due to the tragic circumstances associated with Uncle Ben, the legendary quote about great power and great responsibility, and one of the most successful villains of all the “spiders”. The Green Goblin, performed by Willem Dafoe, turned out to be so good that it carried not only this film, but some other one, filmed more than 15 years later.
5th place: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Surprisingly, Empire journalists ranked the first part of the trilogy with Tom Holland above the other first parts. On the plus side, they noted the youth and, in a good way, funniness of this Peter Parker, again, a younger and more perky Aunt May, the intriguing MJ played by Zendaya and, of course, the main villain - the vulture played by Michael Keaton. True, the latter is clearly inferior to the Green Goblin.
The most important thing to note is the overall freshness and entertainment of this reboot. In addition, this spider turned out to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made it possible to feature Tony Stark in the film and perceive the story as a continuation of the successful Avengers franchise.
4th place: Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
The same film where almost all of the above-mentioned heroes appeared. Thanks to obtaining certain copyrights, Marvel Studios were able to put all three performers of the role of Peter into one film, and even along with some villains from their solo films. The way characters from other “universes” were wedged into this film causes some controversy, but fans of the series have elevated the film to the status of one of the best comic book projects, even despite the obvious plot inconsistencies and assumptions.
3rd place: Spider-Man: Web of Universes (2023)
Yes, a full-length cartoon also counts! This list was compiled in his honor, because “The Web of Universes” is currently the most recent project about Spider-Man.
According to journalists, the cartoon turned out to be very good, but it is still inferior to the truly masterpiece of the first part.
2nd place: Spider-Man 2 (2004)
The best among films. Still, according to journalists, this title goes to the second part of the trilogy with Tobey Maguire. The incredible happened in this film - the villain turned out to be even cooler than in the first part. Doctor Octavius and Peter Parker became the ideal antagonist and protagonist, and the action scenes with them turned viewers' heads at the time. The development of the love story with Mary Jane did not disappoint either.
And in the film there is a truly horror scene with tentacles that deal with doctors - the film was able to surprise even with this.
1st place: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
The best Spider-Man movie is a cartoon. It just so happened.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was a breakthrough project not only for superheroes, introducing the world to the idea of a multiverse, but also for animation.
The cartoon has everything. Stylization of printed comics, mind-blowing visual effects, several heroes and villains from various universes (even from Looney Toons), a change in the main character (this is no longer Peter Parker), a powerful villain who manages to evoke sympathy - and all this was strung together on a strong and well-thought-out plot.
It's no surprise that Into the Spider-Verse won the Oscar for Best Animated Project and took first place in the list of Spider-Man feature films.
