Death row inmates in the United States are given the right to order their favorite dishes for their last meal. Many prisons, although not all, are willing to offer people on death row their last meal, and some even go out of their way to accommodate unusual demands.
1. Robert Buell and Victor Feger asked for an olive with a pit.
Child rapists and murderers - Feger in 1963 and Buell in 2002 - made the same order. They asked for one olive with a pit so that after death they could return to life in the form of an olive tree, a symbol of peace and chastity.
2. Philip Ray Workman asked to feed the homeless
Philip Ray Workman was executed in 2007 for killing a police officer during a restaurant robbery. Workman made an unusual last food order: He asked for a vegetarian pizza, not for himself, but for the local homeless. The request was rejected. But the local residents, having learned about it, fulfilled his last wish.
3. Timothy McVeigh asked for ice cream
Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, who carried out one of the worst terrorist attacks in US history, was executed in 2001 for killing 168 people and injuring hundreds. For his last meal, he asked for two pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
4. Thomas Grasso's last meal was not a success.
Burglar Thomas J. Grasso, who killed two people during a robbery, wanted to eat well before leaving this world. He ordered steamed mussels, a Burger King double cheeseburger with a strawberry milkshake, some pumpkin pie, mango and SpaghettiOs special spaghetti, considered one of the best in the world. Before he was executed, he managed to be indignant that the spaghetti they brought him was not the one he ordered, but the usual one. “I want the press to know about this!” he said displeasedly.
5. Gerald Lee Mitchell ordered candy
Gerald Lee Mitchell, responsible for the murder of three people, was executed in 2011 by the state of Texas. When given the chance to order his final meal, Mitchell decided to forgo a fancy dinner and instead asked for an assortment of Jolly Rancher candies. The wish was granted.
6. John Conner did his best
John Wayne Conner wanted to make sure he didn't starve. So his latest order consisted of 10 pieces of crispy fried catfish, 10 hushpuppies on the side, a whole, chopped raw onion, two triple hamburgers and two pints of vanilla ice cream.
7. James Edward Smith had to settle for yogurt
Convicted of murder and robbery, Smith made one of the most unusual orders: he asked for some dirt to perform a voodoo ritual that was supposed to help his spirit move on. But dirt wasn't on the menu, so he had to make a different choice. In the end he settled on yogurt.
8. Dobie Gillis Williams Craved Chocolate
In 1999, Dobie Gillis Williams, convicted of murdering a woman, was executed by lethal injection. The last meal was ice cream and 12 chocolate bars.
9. Lawrence Brewer ordered a big lunch.
Did you know that if you're on death row in Texas, you don't get your last meal? Instead, you eat what everyone else is eating that day. And it's all Lawrence Russell Brewer's fault. After his outburst, the last meal in Texas was canceled. Brewer asked for and received two chicken-fried steaks with gravy and onions; Triple Bacon Cheeseburger; cheese omelette; a bowl of fried okra; one pound of barbecue meat with half a loaf of white bread; three fajitas; large meat pizza; one pint of Blue Bell ice cream; peanut fudge with crushed peanuts and three bottles of soft drink. And he didn't touch anything. A state senator found out about this and was furious, demanding that the practice of the last meal be stopped because people like Brewer ridiculed it.
10. Christopher Brooks ordered junk food
Christopher Brooks met his demise in 2016, but he decided to take one last bite. Just like he's used to. Instead of a normal meal, he asked for two jars of peanut butter and a Dr. Pepper soda.
11. Gary Carl Simmons Jr. got enough calories to last 15 days.
In 2012, Gary Carl Simmons Jr. was executed for, among other charges, the murder and dismemberment of a man. When his time finally came, it felt like he was trying to kill himself with his last meal so as not to leave it to the state machine.
He ordered the Pizza Hut Super Supreme Deep Dish pizza plus a regular pizza with three cheeses, olives, bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic and Italian sausage. He also had 10 8-ounce packages of Parmesan cheese; 10 8 oz Ranch Dressing Packets; one large bag of Doritos cheese for nachos; 8 ounces jalapeño nacho cheese; 4 ounces chopped jalapeno; 2 large strawberry cocktails; two bottles of cherry cola; one large package of McDonald's fries with extra ketchup and mayonnaise; two pints of strawberry ice cream. All this together amounted to just under 29,000 calories.
12. John Wayne Gacy had a bucket of KFC
One of the most terrifying serial killers in history (and largely responsible for the modern craze for evil clowns), John Wayne Gacy was executed in 1994 for the murders of at least 33 young people. Gacy's last meal was a huge, greasy, salty meal consisting of 12 fried shrimp and a bucket of 21 KFC wings with fries. To stay healthy, he also asked for a pound (about half a kilogram) of strawberries. Gacy worked as a KFC manager while he was free, so he was loyal to the brand.
13. Aileen Wuornos only asked for coffee

14. Robert Harris threw a feast
In 1992, the killer of two teenagers, Robert Harris, faced the gas chamber at San Quentin prison after being convicted in 1979. His last meal included two large Domino's pizzas, a bucket of KFC and some ice cream. He also ordered a packet of jelly beans and a pack of Camel cigarettes.
15. Jeffrey Barney asked for cereal with milk.
Not everyone takes their last meal so seriously. Geoffrey Barney spent four years on death row before being executed for murder. When his time came, he ordered two full boxes of Frosted Flakes and a pint of milk.
16. Odell Barnes asked for world peace
Odell Barnes was executed in 2000 and found guilty of merciless murder. Apparently there was some evidence that he may have been innocent of the crime, but the case was never fully investigated and Barnes was executed anyway. His last request was not for food, but for justice, equality and world peace. If he was guilty, this is a confusing way to get away. If he was innocent, then it is very sad.
17. James Henry tried something new
James Henry decided to taste a dozen raw oysters for the first and last time before his execution. He ate all 12, and the warden asked if he wanted more, but he refused.

20. William Bonin drank a lot of soda
William Bonin, the Freeway Killer, was a real monster who killed 21 people (these were young men and boys). When he was finally executed, his last request for food was as abnormal as he was. They brought him two large pepperoni and sausage pizzas, three pints of coffee ice cream and three six-packs of Coca-Cola. It is unknown whether he managed to drink all this Coca-Cola.
21. John Spenkelink: "Double whiskey please!"
John Arthur Spenkelink was executed in 1979. What he last ate appears to be unknown. But what he drank is well known: it was two straight Jack Daniels, which he shared with the warden. The execution was considered somewhat controversial, as many believed that Spenkelink committed his crimes in self-defense. Perhaps that's why the superintendent had a drink with him.
22. Yosvanis Valle asked to fry properly
At first glance, Yosvanis Valle's last meal was not so strange. He asked for hamburgers, fries and rice. But at the same time he wanted all four of his hamburgers to be almost burnt, his fries to be almost burnt, and his rice to be almost burnt. It also had jalapeño, onion, tomato and cheese.
23. Benjamin Cole ordered a "religious" meal
Benjamin Cole was in prison for a gruesome murder, and his lawyers were trying to get leniency on the grounds that he was mentally ill. It didn't work and he was executed in 2022. For his last meal, he asked for what the prison called “religious food.”
It consisted of vegetable lasagna, flatbread, salad and a packet of fruit drink. I wonder what religion this is from?
