Interesting facts about the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" (21 photos + 3 videos)
The second film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, subtitled Dead Man's Chest, was created almost immediately after the release of the first part. The film turned out to be even larger-scale and successful than the last one. I suggest you find out a few facts about him.
1. Due to the fact that almost all the scenery created for the first part of the film "Pirates of the Caribbean" was destroyed by a hurricane, the studio had to allocate an unplanned additional 100 million dollars for the filming of the second part.
2. Director Gore Verbinski flatly refused to cast actress Naomie Harris as the witch Tia Dalma, as he considered her too young for the role.
But in the end, he was persuaded to audition the actress, and Naomi simply amazed him with her acting and ability to imitate a Jamaican accent, after which Verbinski took her for the role without hesitation.
3. In the original script there should have been some kind of fountain of youth. But in the end they decided to abandon this idea. However, they did not forget about the fountain of youth and returned to it already in the fourth part of the film.

4. Actor Bill Nighy, who played Davy Jones, wore a special suit, as well as special sensors that recorded the movements of every part of his face. And only then they put computer graphics on it.

Davy Jones's tentacles were also computer generated. But one scene did use animatronics. We are talking, of course, about the scene when Will tried to steal the key from the sleeping captain.

5. Tim Burton also had a small role in the production of the film. Specifically, at the request of Johnny Depp, he made many sketches for the Flying Dutchman team, some of which were eventually used in the film.

6. Stellan Skarsgård, who played Will Turner Sr., spent 4 hours a day doing makeup. And according to the original plan, they wanted to make him in approximately the same way as Davy Jones, that is, using computer graphics.

7. The same monkey that the audience loved so much was played by as many as 2 monkeys, but not at all by the ones who played it in the first part of the film.
8. The cages in which Gibbs, Will Turner and others hung were made, of course, not of bones, but of metal and foam.

9. Will Turner's emotions when he saw Jack Sparrow and Elizabeth kissing were genuine. Orlando Bloom did not know about this plot twist, since in his version of the script this scene was specifically removed in order to look at the actor’s emotions.

10. There was no scene in the script where Elizabeth chains Jack Sparrow to the mast. It was suggested by Keira Knightley, who played the role of Elizabeth. The director liked this idea and decided to film this scene.

11. In the final scene, the emotions of the actors who saw Captain Barbossa alive were very real.

This was not spelled out in their versions of the script, and the director said that Anna Maria, played by actress Zoe Saldana, would come down the stairs. Therefore, the surprise on the actors’ faces was genuine.
12. After filming ended, Davy Jones was added to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland. After filming of the first film ended, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa were added.

13. The budget for the second part of "Pirates of the Caribbean" was $225 million, and box office receipts were $1 billion and $66 million. Currently, this film is in 41st place on the list of highest-grossing films. The film took the third place at its maximum.

14. Jack Sparrow's father, played by Keith Richards, was supposed to appear in the second part of the film, but in the end it didn't work out. However, the musician still appeared in this role, but in the third part.

15. The very wheel inside which the heroes of the film fought was real. The height of this wheel was 5.5 meters, and the weight was just over 800 kg.
This wheel was pulled by a truck along specially prepared paths. And inside at that time there were actually actors and stand-ins, as well as cameramen.

16. There were some problems during the filming of Bill Nighy's Davy Jones. The fact is that in order to film a person in a motion capture suit, you needed a closed room with equipment. But since the shooting was on location, it was not possible to do this.

Thus, the employees of the famous effects studio ILM created a new technology called IMO Cap, which made it possible to shoot using Motion Capture technology anywhere and using just a pair of cameras without additional bulky equipment.

Moreover, the suit was lightweight and protected the actors from direct exposure to sunlight and water.
17. The ILM studio did a tremendous job, because they had to animate each of the 42 tentacles located on Davy Jones's face. Each tentacle had to touch each other and live its own separate life.

18. The suction cups on the octopuses' tentacles are arranged in even rows, but director Gore Verbinski decided that Davy Jones should be more vile and terrifying, so it was decided to make the suction cups on his tentacles randomly scattered.

19. Of course, the Kraken's tentacles were done using CGI, but to show the destruction caused by the giant clam, two blue cement works were used to collapse on the ship. And then, of course, computer graphics were applied.

In general, a tremendous amount of work was done. No wonder this film eventually won an Oscar in the Best Visual Effects category.
