I wanted to be a little nostalgic, to remember the good old days when we watched Brazilian TV series with the whole family and even with our neighbors.
Fans of Brazilian soap operas, probably like me, have noticed some of their peculiarities. I will write about those that I noticed. And you - continue in the comments.
1. Love before a long separation
TV series "Clone"
Almost always, the main characters of the series fall in love in the first episodes, then separate, only to be reunited at the end. About 90% of the plot they are married to people they don't love. I remember only the only case when the main character remained with her husband, to whom she was forcibly married - “Roads of India”.
2. Villain Rival
Series "The Secret of the Tropican"
Love triangles are another mandatory attribute of TV series. In Brazilians, these rivals are sometimes so cruel and treacherous that it makes your hair stand on end.
3. Numerous minor characters
Series "Brazil Avenue"
Sometimes some of the secondary characters are more interesting to watch than the main ones. And sometimes such characters, on the contrary, seem superfluous, the episodes with them are boring, stupid and only drag out the timing.
4. Actors of all ages
Series "Queen of the Pastry Shop"
Probably every TV series in Brazil has old people and children. There are no questions about children, but for some reason the characters of grandmothers and grandfathers often behave differently from those from our lives. They seem to gain a second youth. They get young, fall in love, go to dances, sometimes create a couple with a person three times younger than themselves.
5. Hot social issues
TV series "Clone"
In addition to the abundance of romance, love, passions, Brazilian TV series often touch on serious topics that few people will shout loudly аbout: “Clone” - drug addiction, “Roads of India” - schizophrenia, psychopathy, “Save me, St. George” - human trafficking, theft children, etc.
6. Amazing soundtracks
TV series "Land of Love"
I love the theme songs from Brazilian TV series, where each character has their own song. I really liked the songs from the series about Italians: “Land of Love” and “Land of Love, Land of Hope.” I even downloaded soundtrack collections from these series. I really love Italian songs, there were a lot of them, but there were also songs in Portuguese. In addition, I downloaded songs from “Clone” and “Brazil Avenue”.
7. Gays and trans
It seems to me, or did tolerance towards sexual minorities appear in Brazil much earlier than here and even before it began to actively appear in Netflix films and TV series? If you delve into your memory, you can find some weirdo of unknown gender in almost every Brazilian TV series.

8. Social inequality
We don't always associate Brazilian TV series with the carefree, rich life of aristocrats from the tropics who drink champagne, spend their days on the beach, and fly in private helicopters. Sometimes we see a strong contrast between the lives of the rich and the poor. It happens that characters live not only in favelas, but also in landfills, as, for example, in “Brazil Avenue”.
