Everything is not like with people. Although...

Female dragonflies who have a “headache” may pretend to be dead to avoid the annoying advances of males. She imitates death quite skillfully - during the flight she falls sharply down, as if she had been hit. In 2017, Swiss entomologists found that males cannot tell whether a female is fertilized or not. Only females that have already been fertilized pretend to be dead.

Tasmanian devils live in burrows. During the mating season, males raid the females' burrows. The male can literally hold the female hostage until she allows him to mate with her. No courtship or mating dances, like some other, more decent animals. Bites and scratches are how devils “win” females.

The male monkfish is 60 times smaller than the female. At the depths of the sea in complete darkness, it is difficult for small males to find females, even despite their size. Some males swim alone all their lives. But those who are lucky literally bite into the female and gradually become her appendage, a bag of genetic material dangling from her belly for the production of offspring. One female can have several males.

Shark liver is a favorite delicacy of killer whales. Killer whales are not interested in shoulder, brisket (or whatever the meat parts of sharks are called). Only the delicious liver, the weight of which, by the way, takes up to a quarter of the shark’s body weight. The killer whale precisely bites the victim in the right place and then squeezes the desired treat out of the wound. Penguins and seals are an easy snack for the killer whale. The gourmet killer whale does not like to eat them with the skin, so he literally squeezes the meat into his mouth, as if from a tube of paste.

An orca can toss its dinner with its tail to stir up the contents, so to speak. This will make it easier for the meat to be separated from the skin that killer whales don’t like.

The struggle for survival of common sand shark pups begins in the womb. The baby shark that is lucky enough to hatch before the others eats other eggs and its brothers that hatched after it.

Cicada larvae live underground for years, feeding on plant roots, and survive on the surface for no more than a couple of weeks. The periodical cicada holds the record for underground life. The larvae spend 13 or 17 years underground, and then hatch en masse. This is their survival strategy - at one point there are so many cicadas that predators gorge themselves on them and then leave them alone. The life of a cicada on the surface is terrible. Their goal is to mate and die. But there is one parasite that penetrates the cicada, eats its organs and secretes substances that attract males. That is, a male living only for the sake of mating can run into a male zombie, who will turn him into the same zombie.
