A number of animals can hibernate. These can be representatives of amphibians, rodents, primates and more. Even bears go to sleep during the winter. But a person cannot fall into such a state on his own. But isn't it possible to send him there artificially? 
Scientists recently learned that even if a certain animal does not hibernate, it has the ability to do so. Studies have been conducted on mice that do not have the ability to hibernate, but only into a stupor, a state of torpor (this is a state into which animals fall in order to survive a period of unfavorable conditions; it is characterized by a slowdown in metabolism, heartbeat and respiration, as well as a decrease in temperature). Interesting conclusions were made: when a number of neurons in mice are stimulated, they can hibernate, like other animals that naturally have this ability. 
During this hibernation, mice's metabolism slows down, their temperature drops, and there is no negative effect on the body. After waking up, mice simply continue to live their lives.
But before this experiment, it was believed that a living creature that is not adapted to hibernation should die. After the experiment on mice, rats were also put into hibernation. The results were the same. 
Opinions vary about the person. It is unlikely that he can fall into this state on his own, but it is quite possible to put a person into artificial hibernation. There are even some scientists who believe that half a million years ago there were people who were able to hibernate on their own. 
Why does a person hibernate at all? The state of hibernation would help people in several areas at once, for example in science and medicine. An artificial state of hibernation could make it possible to study Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases in more detail and would give doctors more time during a heart attack, stroke or severe bleeding of a patient, since in this state the body needs less oxygen and blood practically stops circulating. 
Hibernation would also help people in space exploration. Getting to Mars, which they want to colonize, is not so easy and safe. It takes about 7 months to get there, and during the flight people can be exposed to heavy radiation. And in a state of hibernation, the flight would go unnoticed, there would be no need to stock up on food, and radiation, as it turned out during experiments on gophers, is neither necessary nor dangerous for hibernating animals.
