Fortunately, this idea has already been visualized by an artist from Anapa, Evgeny Kazantsev. In his illustrations, ancient monuments familiar to us all coexist with modern cities and other infrastructure of the 21st century.

In the duel between stone and time, the latter always wins, as we are convinced of every time we see the ruins of some grandiose structure of antiquity. However, why don’t we fantasize about how ancient buildings would fit into the modern world? Including 7 wonders of the world.

mausoleum in Halicarnassus

An ancient tomb built in the 4th century BC in the territory of modern Turkey (the city of Bodrum). It was destroyed relatively recently - in the 15th century.

Zeus statue in Olympia

It was erected in the 5th century BC and was located in the marble temple of Zeus on the Greek island of Peloponnese.

Hanging Gardens of Babylon

They were located in Babylon on the territory of modern Iraq.

Takiyuddin Observatory of Constantinople

The ancient observatory, built in 1577, was located in what is now Istanbul, Türkiye.

Tower of Babel

A legendary tower, the construction of which, according to biblical chronology, took place in the 28th century BC.

Great Sphinx

The oldest monumental sculpture in the world has survived to this day, tattered, but quite recognizable.

Parthenon and Athens Acropolis

They were erected in the 5th century BC in Ancient Greece. They have survived to this day, but in a dilapidated state.

Temple of Artemis of Ephesus

It was built (and destroyed) in the ancient Greek city of Ephesus in the 4th century BC. Now this is the territory of the Turkish city of Izmir. In the illustration by Evgeny Kazantsev, the temple is depicted in a dilapidated state, but in reality there is practically nothing left of this Wonder of the World.

The Colossus of Rhodes

A 36-meter (approx.) statue that stood in the Greek city of Rhodes in the 3rd century BC.

Bonus: if a highway were built near the ancient city of Petra

The city is located on the territory of modern Jordan.
