North Korea, Iran and Barbados: 5 countries that don't have McDonald's (6 photos)
There is a belief that McDonald's restaurants exist all over the world, although in fact this is not the case. McDonald's is a huge corporation. It is the second largest private employer in the world, second only to Walmart. Today, their fast food restaurants can be found in many countries around the world, but not everywhere.
Most countries where there is no chain restaurant yet are developing. Sales revenue there is low and supply chains are difficult. Sometimes the lack of a restaurant was influenced by political reasons, a small population, or the locals' dislike of American cuisine. Below we tell you where there is not a single McDonald's in the whole country.
Ghana
It is noteworthy that out of 56 countries in Africa, only 4 have McDonald's. Interestingly, in recent years, branches of similar enterprises - KFC and Chicken Republic - have begun to appear in countries. However, the appearance of an establishment with the coveted “golden arches” is not yet expected.
Bolivia
There was once a fast food restaurant in this country, but it closed in 2002. This is because, despite the locals’ love for hamburgers, for some reason they did not want to purchase them from this company. They seemed to dislike her, and the president of the state even once said that the corporation was only interested in profit, and not in the health of clients. However, rumors have recently spread around the country that the restaurant is considering a comeback.
Iran
Once upon a time there was a McDonald's in the country, but that was so long ago that the Islamic Republic did not yet exist. In 1979, after changes in the political structure of the state, the restaurant closed and has not returned since.
Barbados
In 1996, McDonald's operated on the island, but not for long. All attempts to get sales off the ground brought nothing, after which management decided to close the branch. The reason why local residents did not buy the products was that the local population was accustomed to different food. Since then, there has been no restaurant with the “golden arches” in the country.
North Korea
Many people will not find this item on the list surprising. The government policy of this country is famous for its tendency toward totalitarianism, and McDonald's is not welcomed by the authorities. Perhaps because everything that has a connotation of Western capitalism is prohibited in the country.
