Creating films and TV series based on real historical events or legends is a long and painstaking process during which it is impossible to take into account everything.

For the screen, the visual component is primarily important, and if it does not correspond to the research and preserved documents of the past, this is the tenth thing. Therefore, in almost every film, no, no, and there will be an inaccuracy that only a true history buff will notice.

One of them is Patrick Robinson. However, he not only criticizes film makers, but also corrects their mistakes. In his works, Patrick shows how the characters should have looked if they were as close to historical reality as possible.

One of the Thor film series

Patrick immediately notes that Odin was not always a gray-haired old man - this is just one of his images. He had a shaggy cloak with splashes of blue, which could easily be complemented by a brooch worn in high society. His weapon is a light throwing spear. Well, where would a warrior be without a helmet?

Anglo-Saxon warrior from the game “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”

Patrick notes that the helmet used in the game does not correspond to the correct time period - it is too old. On the contrary, the armor and sword turned out to be too innovative. Patrick replaced the two-handed sword with a smaller weapon, and also armed the warrior with a spear, supplementing it with a shield. All armor has been replaced with more suitable ones.

Moorish knight from the series "The Spanish Princess"

Some scenes take place in the period just before the end of the Reconquista in 1492. To ensure that the warrior’s outfit corresponded to his time, he was dressed in a light leather brigantine and a turban. The warrior was also equipped with an adarga shield and a sword, which was used by the jinete - light cavalry.

Heahmund (Bishop of Sherborne) from the TV series "Vikings"

Since Heahmund was a member of the clergy, he was required to have a tonsure - a shaved circle of hair on the top of his head. Patrick replaced the slightly fantasy clothes with a more appropriate one - woolen, and added a crucifix to it. There is an inaccuracy in the series - Heahmund uses a sword from the 14th century, although he needs a weapon from the 9th century.

Henry V in The Hollow Crown

The first inaccuracy Patrick points out is the chain mail. It was worn, but in order to cover places that armor could not protect, and not as independent armor. Since Henry was of royal blood, he could afford armor made especially for him. A textile cape was usually worn over it. Then still a prince, Henry wore a helmet with a crown. True, he did not protect him from an arrow hitting him directly in the face, but despite such a wound, Henry survived.

Warriors in the series "Renaissance: Ertugrul"

How the Turkmen Seljuks were shown in the Turkish TV series “Renaissance: Ertugrul”, and what they should look like.

Vikings in the movie "Alfred the Great"

Patrick removed most of the leather and fur and dressed the characters in more appropriate outfits. He added a Spangelhelm helmet to one of the warriors, and a Shorewell helmet to another, which was found near the English village of the same name.
