The many-faced Englund, whose credits include more than just the role of a dream maniac (13 photos)
There is a category of actors who played their iconic roles in such complex makeup that they would be unrecognizable without it. But a career does not end with one role. And this actor clearly proved the real statement.
The media franchise, based on the 1984 slasher film, includes 9 films, two shows and countless documentaries, videos, books and comics. In general, Freddy Krueger is already a whole industry.
What’s noteworthy is that Robert hated horror films, a genre that made the actor famous, and gravitated towards theater and classics. But, as they say, you never know in advance how life will turn out.
"Dirty Deal"
Robert Englund's career began long before the appearance of a maniac seeking revenge for his death on teenagers and their parents. The actor made his debut in the 1974 drama Buster and Billy. A year later he starred in the thriller “Dirty Business.”
"Eaten Alive"
And in 1976, the film “Eat Alive” was released - just a horror film about a psycho who feeds unfortunate hotel guests to a crocodile. That is, Robert betrayed his principles and rejection of horror films. And I was right.
But everything did not happen right away. The roles of rude hillbillies loomed in the future. By the way, Englund even auditioned for the role of Skywalker. But the attractive energy was more negative, so the result is obvious.
"Victory"
Then the actor’s career began with a role in the 1984 TV series “Victory,” which tells the story of the epic confrontation between earthlings and reptilian aliens. So he didn't particularly shy away from playing Freddy in the despised horror genre. And he became a rock star, practically merging with the striped sweater for the next few years.
"Phantom of the Opera"
Kruger is an inexhaustible topic. But Englund decided to move away from the image and still try himself in the dramatic genre. And he got the main role in the film “The Phantom of the Opera” in 1989.
"Dance of Death"
Three years later there was a role in the rather elegant thriller “Dance of Death”, seasoned with a pinch of scars (hello from Freddie).
"Wish Maker"
Then there was a role in the rather remarkable film “The Wish Granter,” which was released in 1997 and told the story of why it is better to bypass genies and achieve the fulfillment of desires on your own, and not with the involvement of otherworldly entities.
"City's legends"
And in 1999, the actor surprised. Not only did he appear in the comedy “The Prince and the Surfer” (a variation on a Twain theme), but the film was also for children. Already in our century, Robert’s role has changed somewhat. He began to be offered the roles of scientists (Professor Wexler in Urban Legends, Dr. Harding in Midnight Man), as well as experts (Jacob in Night World) and psychologists (Fear Clinic).
"Fear Clinic"
Which is logical - the artist, gray-haired and not devoid of aristocracy, looked quite organic in these roles.
"2001 Maniac"
Yes, after “Nightmares” and “The Phantom of the Opera” the artist did not have major roles. But Robert is really smart, because he did not drown in Krugerism, abandoning everything else and exploiting the image of just a maniac from dreams.
Englund actively acts in films, does voice acting, writes books, and participates in documentary projects and events dedicated to the fertile topic of horror. In short, Robert, who recently turned 76, lives to the fullest and enjoys life.
In what role do you think the actor looks most natural? Or is he Freddy and only Freddy?
