Why are wasps needed (5 photos)

The bees were sorted out a long time ago: they are very useful in the ecosystem and without them the world would collapse. But why do we need wasps that simply fly, periodically bite painfully and even heroically do not die after being stung, like bees?

Recent research has shown that wasps don't just interfere with people's rest.

These are insects that live in a large swarm, where each has its own specific role. But there are also misanthropic wasps that live alone and tiny species that are almost invisible.

Wasps take an active part in pollination. They drink nectar and transfer pollen to flowers on their small legs. Also, wasps feed not only on it, but also love to eat sugar syrup, jam, fruit, and will not even refuse beer, unceremoniously climbing into our glasses.

Those wasps that live in colonies are predators and they destroy most large and small insect pests. Caterpillars, aphids, flies, beetles - everything goes into food. The wasps chew them and feed their larvae this way. Scientists have calculated that wasps can eat more than 10 million kg of insects in one summer.

But not just insects: they can also feast on something from the human table - small pieces of meat and fish. And ground wasps, in the process of hunting victims, paralyze them with their poison.

Moreover, a wasp can even be “trained” to catch the necessary insects. Scientists once trained wasps to hunt the caterpillars of a butterfly, which they do not normally eat: they coated the larvae with the blood of insects attractive to the wasp.

There are species of wasps (they exist in South America) that can make honey. Until Europeans brought domesticated bees to this region, wasps did an excellent job of “delivering” honey to Indian tribes. But after bees appeared there, aspen honey ceased to be popular - the taste was worse, and its producers bit much more strongly.

There are also unconfirmed facts that they say wasp venom can be used to treat. But unlike the benefits of bee venom, the benefits of which have already been proven, aspen venom is still in question. There is an assumption that the spelled (tropical paper wasp) venom may contain substances that can fight cancer. But this information has not yet been confirmed.
