“RoboCop”: what do the actors who played the main roles look like now? (34 photos)

On July 17, 1987, the film "RoboCop" was released worldwide and, despite the strict "R" rating (it was even harsher. See the director), it hit the box office.

Although we have witnessed the appearance of a remake, which, by the way, is not bad, it is Verhoeven’s “Robocop” (in the old translation by Kartsev) that still sits firmly in our hearts.

Casey Wong/ Mario Machado (1940 - 2013)

I couldn't find a more recent frame, only from 2005

Fun fact: I couldn’t find anything specifically about Mr. Machado in this film, so here’s a random fact about the movie. RoboCop could not fit entirely into a police car, because the Zvezdets suit is so bulky. The authors used a trick: in the film we mainly see the moments when Alex gets out of the car (at the same time, his legs are often flashed first, like, look, RoboCop is actually driving) or is preparing to get into it. In fact... When Murphy sits at the steering wheel, he is only wearing the top of his “armor”. Below he is in his home shorts. Respect to such guys, but now we have to live with this knowledge :-)

Jesse Perkins/ Lisa Gibbons

Fun fact: Remember the scene where the two ghouls tried to rape the girl? The screenwriter asked Weller to aim almost at the girl’s cheek in order to get a beautiful and effective shot. They would have done that, but Verhoeven was like, “Look, her legs are spread.” "And what?". "Let's go there!" This is how the almost legendary scene was born, where Robo shoots...

Bixby Snyder/ S. D. Nemeth

Would you buy them for a dollar?

Fun fact: RoboCop actually helped catch a criminal. One man, fleeing from justice, disappeared into a dark cinema hall, where the film was playing. Law enforcement officers quietly led the audience out of the hall, and then abruptly turned on the lights and detained the character. He was so engrossed in what was happening on the screen that he did not notice the “change of scenery.”

Steve Min/Calvin Jung

Fun fact: the director and screenwriters, realizing that the money for the film had run out, deliberately did not film one of the most key scenes of the film - the murder of Alex Murphy. With this news, they headed to the studio, to their bosses, where they showed the footage. The big shots were so impressed by what they saw that they immediately gave out more money.

When you know that the scene with you in the director's cut is even cooler than the theatrical version.

Joe Cox/Jesse D. Goines

Fun fact: Remember the cool (more pretentious, but still) scene where RoboCop catches the keys to a police car? The suit's arms were made of a soft material that bounced back, causing the keys to simply bounce off Weller. A whole day of filming and 50 takes were spent on this scene... Do you still dream of becoming an actor? :-)

An ordinary photo of city boys from the Moscow region, late 80s.

Emil Antonovski/ Paul McCrane

Damn, you’ll meet me like this on the street and won’t recognize him.

Fun fact: Here's one of the ideas that didn't make it into the film. They originally wanted to do a scene where RoboCop returns home, but no one recognizes him... except for his dog, happily wagging his tail. Paul Verhoeven considered the idea too sentimental and abandoned it.

Donald Johnson/ Felton Perry

Fun fact: The store robber was played by the man in charge of the stunts in the film. In fact, he himself suggested the scene where RoboCop sends his carcass straight into the refrigerator with a blow of his hand. Good scene :-)

Nash Leon/ Ray Wise

Fun fact: Mr. Wise and Kurtwood Smith got too close to the explosion (I'm guessing it was a store window) and got hit in the faces by glass shards. Therefore, both received a “stuntman” award at the end of filming. Ray joked that now he knows a way to raise extra money ?_(?)_/?

Warren Reed/ Robert Ducuy (1934 - 2008)

Fun fact: You probably want to read something about the ED-209, am I right? Then here you go: the speech was voiced by the film's producer John Davison, the roar was taken from the jaguar, and the squeal from the pig. And in our childhood it seemed to us that he was floundering and screaming like a chicken. One day I will definitely buy his figurine for my shelf. I missed the chance at one time, but... I'll try to catch up :-)

Still from the second part. I'm cheating, sorry. But damn, he's so good :-)

Robert Morton/ Miguel Ferrer (1955 - 2017)

Fun fact: Initially, “Bob” Morton was written as a kind of careerist, a tough head-walker. However, after inviting Mr. Ferrer to the set, when Verhoeven and Neumeier (the screenwriter) saw a rather gallant and charismatic gentleman, they realized that the viewer would begin to sympathize with the character. Therefore, the character was slightly rewritten. Morton did not become the standard “good” guy, but... admit it, you also felt sorry when they killed him, didn’t you? :-(

Clarence Boddicker/ Kurtwood Smith

He always reminded me of my grandfather, no matter how strange it may sound.

Fun fact: The producers were concerned about the scene where RoboCop breaks several layers of glass with Boddicker while being read his rights. They were afraid that it would show the police in a bad light. Then it was decided to hold a closed demonstration of the trick in front of law enforcement officers. They gave me a standing ovation, honestly. The fact is that Robocop treats the detainee extremely harshly, which they (the police) cannot afford in real life. Most, anyway, plus remember that it's the late eighties. Let's move on, a little more.

Richard "Dick" Jones/ Ronny Cox

Fun fact: When filming ended, Paul Verhoeven apologized to the entire crew and cast, in particular Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith and Peter Weller. The director turned out to be a very hot-tempered guy and allowed himself too much with the people around him, which was considered the norm at the beginning of his career in Holland, but did not “work” at all in the USA. As a result, he became more reserved.

Col "Old Man" Hagen/ Dan O'Herlihy (1919 - 2005)

Fun fact: Remember RoboCop's infrared scanner? When did he “shine through” the wall where the official was holding the mayor hostage? Verhoeven resorted to a trick in order to save on a real scanner: he ordered the lights to be set in a certain way (almost plunging the set into darkness), and he smeared the actors (naked, of course. Maybe doubles, this is not specified) and the furniture with fluorescent paint. Such are the things.

Anne Lewis/Nancy Allen

Fun fact: The director himself cut Nancy's hair several times until he achieved his goal - he wanted to desexualize the character.

Alex Murphy/ RoboCop/ Peter Weller

Fun fact: By Mr. Weller's own admission, one of his favorite scenes in his entire career is the scene at the drug factory. The fact is that he persuaded the person in charge of the costume to “embed” a Walkman in the helmet, so during the filming of the shooting, Peter enjoyed the track “Red Rain” by Peter Gabriel. Fun fact :-)
