Ancient monuments and objects from an unusual angle (7 photos)
Throughout its history, humanity has constantly created something. From tools to architecture and simply beautiful objects. You know perfectly well what the most famous of them look like, even if you haven’t seen them in person.
We have all seen in films or in photographs the Statue of Liberty, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Egyptian Sphinx. But most often we know them only from one angle, the most popular and “photogenic”. But from the other side, this or that cultural object can open from a completely different side.
Taj Mahal
Everyone who sees the Taj Mahal for the first time never tires of being amazed at its magnificence. White towers, beautiful carvings... They are reflected in artificial reservoirs and seem to float between heaven and earth.
But on the other hand, the picture is absolutely terrible: dirt, decaying garbage, overgrown gardens, poverty.
Leaning Tower of Pisa from the inside
It is located in the Italian city of Pisa and is best known for its slope as a result of the heterogeneous soil of Italy: under the northern part of the tower the soil is many times harder than in the southern one. The tower was strengthened several times and to this day remains one of the most recognizable landmarks. There is hardly anyone who has visited Italy and has not had a photograph taken against its background in a “creative” pose, as if holding it with their hands.
Statue of Liberty from above
It is located near Manhattan - the center of New York. The statue was built in 1886 as a gift from France to mark the centennial of American independence. And this is not just a monument, it serves as a beacon: using its light, ships can plot the right routes.
But the Statue of Liberty is not on the official list of lighthouses, since this is not its main function.
Stonehenge
Most often we see these mysterious blocks from a closer angle. They seem to us to be harmoniously integrated into the surrounding nature, despite their unusualness.
But from above the view is completely different: there are modern roads nearby, sheep grazing and a large parking lot. Surrounded by this modern surroundings, Stonehenge seems like an ordinary dump of stones.
Back of the Egyptian Sphinx
This large sphinx is located on the western side of the Nile in the city of El Giza. It is carved into limestone rock and resembles a lion lying on the sand. It was created in honor of Pharaoh Khafre, who was often compared to the king of nature. Its length is 73 meters and its height is 20 meters. Its characteristic feature is the absence of a one and a half meter nose; it is believed that it fell off under prolonged exposure to wind and moisture.
Statues on Easter Island
ONE of the famous mysteries of humanity is the stone statues on Easter Island. It is surprising that the part of the statue that is hidden underground is much larger than the part that is visible to the human eye.
