These guys completely flipped the script. They were so good at playing villains that they got the opportunity to play the main character in the film's sequel. Yes, sometimes the “hero” can be a very ambiguous character.

9. Jason Voorhees - Freddy vs. Jason

Ironically, the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason was a horror fan's dream come true. Is the iconic glove-wearing antagonist from the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise teaming up with the main villain of Friday the 13th? It was absolutely fantastic!

It all starts when a dejected Freddy Krueger brings Jason Voorhees back from the dead to help him in his villainous ways. Jason soon gets to work, dicing the people of Springwood and manipulating the demon to bring him back to life.

The regular people in the film set up events that result in Jason and Freddy fighting each other, but that doesn't stop them from killing a few people. Just when the fight seems over and Freddy is about to finish off the survivors, Jason appears from behind him and impales Kruger with his own bladed gauntlet. Jason isn't what you'd call a good guy, but he's the more likable of the two monsters in this movie.

8. Leatherface (Thomas Hewitt) - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D

The seventh film in the never-ending Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is a sequel to the original 1974 film.

A young adoptive mother named Heather comes with friends to the town of Newt, Texas, to receive her late grandmother's inheritance. Stopping at Grandma's house, the honest company discovers that Leatherface lives in the basement. Leatherface, as expected, begins to kill, but stops when he sees a strange birthmark on Heather's chest. This is a sign of the Sawyer family, to which Heather's grandmother secretly belonged. Thus, Heather and Leatherface turn out to be related. This prompts the girl to turn her face to the huge killer, because he is the only real family she has. She saves him from the police, and then reads a letter from her grandmother, which says that Leatherface will look after her for the rest of his life.

Again, there are a lot of kills in this movie that are not worth paying attention to. However, at the end of the film, Leatherface becomes more good than evil. A direct sequel to the film never materialized, so we'll never know for sure.

7. Vampires - Blade 2

Blade hates vampires. But at the same time he is half-vampire. What a tragic figure! “The Daywalker” performed by Wesley Snipes at the end of the first feature film defeats a whole squad of bloodsuckers led by Deacon Frost. However, by the time the sequel is released, he is already collaborating with vampires? How so?

As the old saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. The enemies are the Reapers, a genetically enhanced race of super-vampires who are deadly to both humans and their lower forms. To deal with the Reapers, the ancient vampire Eli Damaskinos makes a truce with Blade and his team. Although, who knows, maybe the Reapers only exist because Eli tried to breed a new, more advanced breed of vampires.

Although most vampires eventually betray Blade, Eli's daughter Nyssa remains on the side of good. Before she dies, she helps kill her father. This dynamic helped differentiate Blade 2 from its predecessor and added an interesting twist to the image of the man in the long black cloak.

6. Frankenstein's monster - "Bride of Frankenstein"

There is an interesting and lengthy debate about whether Frankenstein's Monster is a villain at all. He did not ask to be created, but was merely the end result of a mad scientist playing God.

Considering he drowned a young girl in the 1931 film Frankenstein, let's just call him the villain for now. The sequel, made in 1935, is called Bride of Frankenstein, although the Bride appears only at the very end. Much of the film is about the Monster learning more about himself and the world around him.

This time he saves a young woman from drowning and then meets a blind man who teaches him the word "friend". All this goes to waste as soon as Frankenstein and his assistant Dr. Pretorius intervene again. When they show the Monster the female they created for him, she rejects him. As a result, the Monster destroys the laboratory, not sparing Frankenstein and his wife. It's a complicated story, but that's how it should be.

5. Pinhead - Hellraiser 2

Horror sci-fi fan Clive Barker wrote and directed the first Hellraiser in 1987.

The main villains are the Cenobites, a group of pale-skinned creatures from another dimension whose hobbies include long walks on the beach, playing Sudoku, and tearing people apart with hooked chains. The main cenobite is called Pinhead - at least that's the nickname fans gave him. It and the film proved so popular that a sequel was released just a year later.

The plot is quite tight, there are puzzles, a secret passage and an all-powerful cenobite named Leviathan. However, we're just here to talk about the moment when the main character, Kirsty, shows Pinhead a photo of himself in human form.

Yes, the main villain of the Hellraiser franchise used to be a regular guy named Elliot Spencer who turned human after encountering something called the Lament Configuration.

Seeing his former human form, Pinhead gathers the rest of the Cenobites to fight Leviathan and rescue Kirsty. This doesn't end well - they are all killed almost immediately, but he did everything he could.

4. Predators - “Alien vs. Predator”

This list would be incomplete without Alien vs. Predator.

When a huge pyramid is discovered underground in Antarctica, a group of people, including guide Alexa (Lex) Woods, set out to explore it. Inside, they find a Xenomorph queen and a bunch of Predators just hanging out down there.

In fact, Predators have been visiting Earth for thousands of years to hunt xenomorphs, using humans as bait. As the film progresses, Scar, a Predator, becomes close with Lex, becoming impressed by her abilities as a warrior. They end up teaming up to destroy the aliens.

So really this movie should be called: Alien vs. Predator, but also vs. Human, and then they team up. It probably wouldn't fit on a poster.

By the end of the film, the Predators become allies of humans in the fight against xenomorphs, which turns them into de facto heroes. They, of course, remain Predators by nature, but in this scenario they are a more preferable option than creepy monsters that lay eggs inside people.

3. Norman Bates - Psycho 3

Yes, Psycho 3 exists. In fact, there is also “Psycho 4,” but that’s not about that now.

In the second film, Norman Bates struggles with his "mother" persona, but returns to murder at the climax. This sets up the third film, also directed by actor Anthony Perkins. Probably as an apology for ruining his best role.

Norman continues to struggle with his alter ego throughout the film until the "mother" encounters journalist Tracy. Tracy begs for her life, explaining to Norman his twisted family backstory. We would try to summarize it, but we simply don't have time.

Norman eventually gains control of his mind and breaks free from his "mother's" control. While he is being escorted by the police, he is told that he will never be released from prison again. He replies: “But I will be free.” By conquering his mind, Norman finally gains control of his life and becomes the hero of his own story. And technically, “the mother” was the one who committed all the murders, so Norman is perfectly fine.

2. Hannibal Lecter - "Hannibal"

After starring in his iconic role as the high-society cannibal, Anthony Hopkins returned to play Dr. Hannibal Lecter in the 2001 film Hannibal.

In this film, Dr. Lecter is on the run, fleeing not only the police, but also one of his former victims. Rich man Mason Verger uses bribery and intimidation to persuade Clarice Starling to lure Hannibal out. He plans to catch the psychopath and take revenge on him.

It seems that both of them are very bad people, and poor old Clarissa just ended up in the center of things. And while that's true, her former tormentor is doing at least one thing right. Hannibal and Clarice are captured by Verger, who intends to feed them to carnivorous boars. Just when it seems that Miss Starling can no longer be saved, Hannibal jumps in and saves her.

Although the reasons for his action are much more complex than just a desire to do good, Hannibal saves the life of the main character. By indirect evidence, this, at least to some extent, also makes him a hero. Almost immediately after this he feeds the second bad guy his own brains, but let's not talk about that.

1. Norman Nordstrom - Don't Breathe 2

A striking example of a hero who was molded from what was - Norman Nordstrom, aka the Blind Man, from the Don't Breathe film series.

In the first film, a gang of teenagers breaks into Norman's house to steal a large sum of money he has hidden there. Unfortunately, Norman simply destroys them. A disabled man protects himself from thieves in his own home? What's bad about it? The problem is that Norman tied up a girl in the basement, whom he forcibly impregnated. Yes, this is not the most heroic act.

In Don't Breathe 2, Norman completely changed his views. Now he lives with his adopted daughter and must save her when her gangster father kidnaps her. He even dies a hero's death!

What the heck? They completely overhauled Norman's character in the sequel and it's annoying to the core. You can only enjoy him being a good guy if you've somehow managed to completely forget all of his disgusting behavior from the previous film.

Can't breathe? More like, “Don’t think.” Or “Forget it.”
