Villains and maniacs from popular horror films from our childhood and youth.

Despite the fact that many of us were forbidden to watch horror films as children, we still got to them and enjoyed watching cult horror films with equally iconic and charismatic villains.

Freddy Krueger

Well, I would like to start with the famous maniac Freddy Krueger, who killed teenagers. Freddy has his own trick that distinguishes him from other villains. He kills not in reality, but in his dreams. This character was portrayed on screen by actor Robert Englund.

Freddie was an unplanned child, to say the least. His mother Amanda was accidentally locked among hundreds of maniacs who abused and raped the poor woman for a couple of weeks.

Subsequently, Amanda went crazy, and Freddie himself ended up in the house of an alcoholic. Naturally, the boy was also an outcast at school, and it was then that his manic abilities began to manifest themselves.

Over time, Freddie's anger only grew. And even though he started a family, he continued to kidnap and kill children. The parents of the children he killed decided to rally together and burned the maniac alive, which is why Kruger became so “Beautiful.” But this was not the end at all.

Having made a deal with the demons of dreams, he gained immortality. He couldn't live in the real world, but he could enter the dreams of teenagers and kill them there.

The film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" became so popular that a sequel was not long in coming. As a result, 7 full-length films were released, 2 seasons of the series "Freddy's Nightmares", one crossover "Freddy vs. Jason" and even a reboot, released in 2010.

Leprechaun

The leprechaun is a character from Irish folklore who is represented as a kind of magical gnome who loves gold and grants wishes.

In the film "Leprechaun" (1993), the Leprechaun was left with all his abilities and characteristics, but was presented as a disfigured and cruel gnome who will do anything to return his gold and kill his offenders.

A leprechaun is an immortal creature, but that doesn't mean it can't be killed. True, the methods of dealing with him changed from part to part. In the first part he was afraid of four-leaf clovers, in the second he was afraid of wrought iron, and in the third part he could only be killed by destroying his gold.

In total, the Leprechaun franchise includes 6 films in the main series, one prequel and one sequel, released in 2018, but without Warwick Davis.

Pinhead

Pinhead is the main villain of the Hellraiser franchise, played by Doug Bradley in 8 parts. Pinhead was once an ordinary man named Elliot Spencer. But during the First World War, Captain Spencer lost faith in humanity, which is why he decided to change his life, descending into debauchery and drunkenness.

One day, a certain Lemarchand box fell into his hands, and upon opening it, Spencer discovered the forbidden world of suffering and pleasure. After going through torment and suffering, Spencer changed beyond recognition.

His bald head began to be covered with dozens of pins, his skin turned blue, and his eyes were blacker than night. His body was also mutilated, but now he no longer felt pain, since he became a real servant of hell and the leader of the Cenobites (demons who used to be people), forgetting about who he was before.

In total, the Hellraiser franchise has 10 parts and one reboot. Moreover, in the last restart of 2022, Pinhead became a woman. Everything is according to the precepts of American tolerance.

Critters

Critters are small carnivorous creatures from outer space that came to Earth with the goal of devouring its entire population. The funny-looking lumps that resemble hedgehogs are actually vicious creatures that can eat an entire person in an instant.

Their strength is in their numbers. Moreover, these creatures are able to unite together, becoming one big “ball” that sweeps away everything in its path.

In addition to sharp teeth and the ability to quickly roll, critters are capable of releasing needles that put their prey to sleep.

Two space hunters are sent to fight them, their goal is to fight the space hedgehogs. And they are helped in this by a local eccentric named Charlie, who later becomes one of the space hunters himself.

The comedy horror film "Nibblers" has 6 parts and one short film. But, perhaps, only the first 4 parts (1986-1992) can be included in the main series.

Jason Voorhees

Jason Voorhees is the main villain of the Friday the 13th franchise, which dates back to 1980.

Pamela Voorhees gave birth to her son Jason when she was just 16 years old. The boy was born with a tumor, due to which he eventually developed hydrocephalus. And when the baby was only one year old, his biological father left the family.

But despite her young age, Pamela tried to surround her sick son with affection and care. But because of the diagnosis, Pamela decided not to send her son to a regular school, where he would be ridiculed. Instead, she taught him herself. True, due to Jason’s low intellectual development, he was never able to study properly.

When Jason was 11 years old, his mother received a position as a cook at the Crystal Lake children's camp. And since she could not find a nanny for her son, she took him with her in the hope that he could have fun and make new friends.

But everything turned out the other way around. Jason could not find a common language with his peers. He was unsure of himself and considered himself a “black sheep.” Therefore, he decides to swim 300 meters. But Jason drowns before he even swims 250 meters. The inconsolable mother blames the counselors for everything, and then slowly goes crazy, after which she begins to hear the voice of her dead son, who orders her to kill.

But in the first part, Jason is not a killer. His actual appearance as a maniac begins only in the second part of the film. It turns out that he did not die, and having witnessed the murder of his mother, he begins to take cruel revenge, killing everyone who is in the camp.

Everyone knows that Jason's distinctive feature is the hockey mask on his face. But in fact, she only appeared in the third part of the film. In the second part, Jason wore a bag on his head.

Mike Myers

The famous slasher film "Halloween" was released back in 1978 and told us about a maniac named Michael Myers, whose face is covered with a mask.

While still a child, Michael killed his older sister Judith, after which he ended up in a psychiatric hospital. But 15 years later, Michael escapes from the mental hospital and begins to pursue a nanny named Laurie Strode played by Jamie Lee Curtis, crushing everyone in his path.

In total, the Halloween series has 11 parts. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis appeared in 7 parts, including the last one, released in 2021.

But Michael Myers was constantly played by different actors. Well, in principle, why take the same one if the villain still wears a mask? Moreover, in the first part alone, the role of Michael was played by 7 actors, including Michael as a child. But still, we mostly see actor Nick Castle. Other actors appear only in special moments. Only actor Tyler Mane played Myers in two films in a row.

Who was your favorite horror movie maniac as a child?
