Dune is a novel by Frank Herbert about a galaxy in the distant future. The book tells the story of Paul Atreides, whose family takes possession of the planet Arrakis. Arrakis is covered with a desert in which the most important substance is mined - “spice” or melange. Possessing melange deposits means having great power in the empire, so Paul's family becomes embroiled in political intrigue.
The book won Hugo and Nebula awards and gained popularity among readers, so a film adaptation was only a matter of time. The Dune universe first appeared on screens in 1984, directed by David Lynch. This film adaptation received low ratings and even the creator himself did not like it. According to him, the final version of Dune was created without his participation, and therefore turned out to be a failure.
The next film adaptation was a mini-series released in 2000. It has already received higher ratings, but its downside is its weak visual component.
The third film adaptation was released in 2021, directed by Denis Villeneuve.

In the 70s, director Alejandro Jodorowsky began thinking about creating a film adaptation of Dune. His plans were Napoleonic - the film was supposed to last 14 hours and completely change the idea of cinema. In the film, Jodorowsky wanted to see Orson Welles, Alain Delon, Mick Jagger and other stars of that time. The main star of the film was to be Salvador Dali, who was offered the role of the galactic emperor. The artist agreed, but set conditions - he must receive $100,000 per hour for his participation in the film, and thanks to this, become the highest paid actor in Hollywood. But Hollywood did not appreciate Jodorowsky’s ambitions and did not invest money in Dune.
