Planetary madness: the strangest laws from different countries that are hard to believe (12 photos)
Probably, in no country in the world will you meet a person who would consider the existing laws to be adequate. However, some of them are really so crazy that you can hardly believe in their existence.
The law banning getting drunk in pubs, adopted in the UK in 1996, does not seem so crazy at first glance. After all, establishments are not allowed to give drinks to already drunk guests in order to prevent potential crimes under the influence of alcohol. However, the people themselves were not particularly happy with this arrangement.
And it doesn’t look as crazy as the ban on dying in the House of Parliament. Otherwise, even after your death, you will go to the court of the royal family. True, it is not clear how you could potentially be punished in the next world.
But in Thailand you will be a repeat offender if you step on money. And all because the bills depict the king of the country, to whom you will thus demonstrate your disrespect.
Of course, making noise after 10 p.m. is prohibited in many countries, but in Switzerland there is a separate clause on this subject that prohibits flushing the toilet.
But in China you won’t get into trouble if you decide to be reborn without the approval of the authorities. This law was adopted after the religious faith of Tibetan monks strengthened in the country.
But in Longyearbyen, Norway, it is completely forbidden to die. All because of the permafrost, in which corpses do not decompose. So if someone is dying, they are taken to another part of Norway to rest there.
In Japan, since 2011, it has been illegal to become fat, unless, of course, you are a sumo wrestler. A man's waist should not exceed 80 cm, while a woman's should not exceed 90 cm.
Many people have probably heard about Singapore's attitude towards chewing gum. Not only can you buy it only with identification documents, but you also risk being fined $1,000 if you did not purchase it for medical purposes.
In Washington, you can end up behind bars, or at best get off with a fine, if you decide to make fun of Bigfoot. Its rights are protected by the Undiscovered Species Protection Act. It is likely that gender identity advocates are protected by the same document.
And Louisiana apparently doesn't like surprises very much, since since 1999 there has been a law prohibiting anyone from sending your friend any goods without notification.
If by some miracle you happen to be the owner of a flamingo in Alaska, then under no circumstances run his hairdressing salon. As you might guess, this is prohibited by law.
Since 1997, it has been illegal in Kansas to kick a vending machine that steals your money. Apparently, this is a common phenomenon there.
It's unclear what legislators in New Jersey were hoping for, but since 1999 it has been illegal to wear body armor if you plan to kill someone. This should probably stop criminals after the phrase “did you forget your body armor at home?”
But we will also end with a very harsh law from Bangladesh, according to which many schoolchildren from all over the world would have long ago filled local prisons. After all, you can go to jail there if you are over 15 years old and you are caught cheating on test assignments. By the way, this law has never been repealed.
What crazy laws do you know from different parts of the world?
