Ragdolls, Lycois and Munchkins: cat variety

Humanity has been living with cats since cave times, and the unbridled animal has long become everyone’s favorite. There are more than a hundred breeds: large and small, hairy and bald, but there are also rarer species that are worth talking about.

Ragdoll

This breed was bred in the American state of California.

When God was distributing brains to animals, apparently the ragdoll was late, or made the wrong door, and received an armful of laziness.

Extremely docile, but dull cats that can not get up from their bed around the clock.

The peculiarity of this breed is its stunning blue eyes and white mustache. It also has only 3 colors: color point, glove and bicolor.

American (Kurilian) Bobtail

Short-haired cats are from the Kuril Islands, from where they were brought to the mainland in the 20th century.

It gives the impression of a wild animal, which sharply contrasts with its absolutely non-aggressive, good-natured character.

Cats of this breed are muscular, strong, usually of medium size, but there are also quite large individuals.

Likoy

Considered a natural mutation of the domestic cat, it was recorded in America, Virginia in 2016.

The animal makes an ambiguous impression: the fur sprouts in clumps and resembles the cover of an opossum.

This breed is even called werecats. But such a strange and even frightening appearance is deceptive: lykoi are very friendly and cute creatures.

Munchkin

Unusual cats with a long spine. Officially, the history of the Munchkin cat breed begins in 1983, when music teacher Sandra Hochenedel from Louisiana picked up a pregnant short-legged cat, nicknamed Blackberry.

This breed does not differ in grace like other cats with long limbs. They always stand on their hind legs and rest on their tail to look around.

Oriental cat

The breed has a flexible, long and slender body. The peculiarity of this species is large ears, like those of a bat. The head is wedge-shaped, resembling a triangle.

One of the friendly breeds that does not tolerate loneliness and is always happy to be close to its owner. Bred in Thailand.

Sphinxes

Hairless cats with the character of a dog. Although it’s bad manners to mention them in any collections, let them be. They are completely devoid of hair, even mustaches. Also wrinkled. They are very smart and energetic.

The breed arose as a result of natural mutation. The first kitten of this species appeared in Toronto, Canada. There are several varieties: Donskoy and Peterbald. Currently, another subspecies is recognized as a phenological organization: the Canadian Sphynx.

Scottish lop-eared

Cats that are often confused with Britons. The first representative of the breed was the white cat Susie, found in 1961 on a farm near the town of Cupar Angus in Perthshire, Scotland.

The animal's ears were curved in an unusual way, which is why it resembled an owl. The two kittens Susie gave birth to also had folded ears.

Currently a very popular breed. Cute cats with unusual appearance. The coat is short and thick, the ears fit tightly to the head. By nature, the fold is quite independent and self-sufficient, but loves the company of its owner.

Savannah

A hybrid of a domestic cat and an African serval. This breed began to be bred in the USA in 2001.

This is a large cat, which reaches 60 cm at the withers, and weighs up to 15 kg. Savannah also has a developed intelligence: a kind of prodigy among four-legged animals.

Khao Mani

Khao mani has an ancient lineage that can be traced back hundreds of years. The animal is mentioned in the Tamra Maew, or Cat Book of Poems. This breed is believed to bring good luck.

This cat can only be found in France, some US states, Slovenia and Thailand. Famous for their colorful eyes and love of water.

Cornish Rex

A distinctive feature is the curly coat, which creates a “corrugated” effect.

The cause of his wavy fur was a gene mutation. The first word in the name of the breed refers to its origin in Cornwall, and the second is borrowed from rabbits. Cats are very playful and love the company of people. Suitable for people with allergies to wool.

Maine Coon

The largest breed that originated from the cats of Maine in the northeastern United States. The name comes from two derivatives: "Maine" and "Raccoon".

Powerful body with a massive head. Wool is adapted to cold climates. The ears have tufts like a lynx, and some have a mane on the neck and head.

Also, in addition to mutations, cats also have various defects, such as polydactyly

Ernest Hemingway is known as a writer, but not everyone knows that he was an avid cat person. He had a Maine Coon cat, which he received from the captain of the ship "Key West" (Florida). The animal had a peculiarity - extra toes on its paws.

As a rule, cats acquire such a defect hereditarily. It is called polydactyly or “Hemingway cats” and is seen in many breeds these days.

Most unusual cats with their external features are a common mutation, but this does not make them some kind of renegades, but, on the contrary, has brought them popularity. In any case, for the owner, his cat will always be the most unique, regardless of origin and appearance.
