There are 56 officially registered ethnic groups in China. Each of them represents its own culture and history, but the most striking ethnic group can be called the Hmong or as the Chinese call them Miao.

They are a distinctive people whose population varies from 10 to 12 million people. They live not only in China, but also in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, and there are also communities in France and the USA.

They have their own Miao language and many dialects that differ significantly from each other.

These people are also divided into several ethno-regional groups, which can be distinguished externally by the predominant color of women's clothing. There are five main regional ethnic groups: white, black, red, blue and multi-colored.

In addition to the color scheme, this ethnic group has special feelings for cattle.

In the province where the Miao live, bullfights are very popular. And the horns of bulls decorate not only the walls of houses, but are also present in the national costumes of men and women. By the way, one of the main elements of national costumes is headdresses.

According to tradition, from the moment a girl is born, parents save up a silver dowry - these are, naturally, silver horns, bowls and jewelry, but the main thing is still a silver headdress. Depending on the status of the family, a silver hat can weigh several kilograms, and the cost of the most modest example starts from 10 thousand yuan. In general, the total weight of all jewelry on a woman’s body can reach 20 kilograms.

For boys, the ritual is much simpler; for example, in Basha Miao Village, boys have their hair cut (prior to this, boys are prohibited from cutting their hair).

In addition to a new hairstyle, the young men receive their first hunting rifle, which their father makes for them. By the way, this is the only place in China where civilians can have firearms, which is why they are also called “militants.”
