Great white-nosed monkey: Loves sweets and knows how to “cake”! Monkeys invented their own language from 3 cries (6 photos)
We primates have one thing - a love for sugar. Some people prefer sweet fruits, others indulge in the inventions of the confectionery industry. But only notorious human sweet tooths can outdo the great white-nosed monkey. Her diet consists of 90% sweets!
Fruits and juicy young leaves are the basis of our hero’s diet. Fortunately, in the jungles of West Africa there is plenty of this stuff 365 days a year. Unlike human lovers of sweets, our hero feels great. He does not have diabetes, obesity or tooth decay. Although the white-nosed monkey is larger than its monkey relatives: the primate is 70 centimeters tall and weighs up to 7 kilograms.
Even his appearance reveals that the primate has a sweet tooth: his dark fur is strewn with many white spots - like a cupcake with powdered sugar. And on the nose there is a white spot that looks suspiciously like icing. Well, where without practical application. Sugar clothing turned out to be an excellent disguise. However, not everything is so sweet: leopards, smaller predators and even eagles are eager to try the frosted monkey!
Game: find the monkey.
To avoid predators less often, white-nosed monkeys gather in flocks of 4 to 60 individuals. Most groups consist of an alpha, his wives and numerous children. But young males also gather in flocks and even join forces with other species of monkeys. The more people there are, the higher the chance that the predator will not choose you.
Another dangerous predator is man. 70% of West Africans have tried white-nosed monkey meat at least once.
Stimulating the brain with high doses of fructose allowed the monkeys to create a complex signaling system that is similar to a primitive language. Its basis is 3 single shouts. The monkey shouts “Pew!” when he sees a leopard and "Hak!" when something eagle-like catches your eye. In different combinations, these exclamations carry different meanings: they can be calls, requests or even threats. Thanks to this communication system, primates share large amounts of information and warn each other in advance about danger.
In addition, monkeys quickly get used to people and are easy to train.
The cry “Kek!” stands out. Females peck at moments when their lives are in immediate danger. Men react to the cry as nobly as possible - they rush to save damsels in distress. This way they not only protect a member of their pack, but also get something in return. Monkey girls know how to be grateful. They will remember their savior and will definitely choose him at the marriage games. Well, then everything is as usual: The female carries her only child for 6 months, after which she carries her for almost a year. But immediately after saying goodbye to the child, she is ready to reproduce, regardless of the season.
There is no child in the middle. This is a small white-nosed monkey. They often hang out with our heroes and are even capable of giving birth to joint offspring.
My rating for the great white-nosed monkey: 8 sweet fruits out of 10. You know, I'm a little jealous of her. The human body forces me to limit my sugar intake so that my insulin levels don't jump around like a kid on a trampoline. They eat sweets all 30 years of their lives - and nothing!
