Typically, wild animals are not particularly kind to humans. But not the stone marten. This repulsed beast is trying his best to make friends with us. True, his methods are extremely unique. Either the attic will be captured, then the chickens will be suffocated, then the hadron collider will stop...





Our furry (non)friends have settled throughout almost all of Eurasia. And thanks to people, the animals came to North America. Humans are not at all interested in the stone marten. Unlike its closest relative, the pine marten, the stone marten has less valuable fur. This means that the fishermen are not very interested in it.



Her fur may not be so valuable, but look how lovely her paws are!

Our heroine is not particularly saddened by the lack of consumer attention from homosapiens. She is intensively studying these mysterious bipeds. For the convenience of conducting field research, stone martens even settle closer to people. The construction of holes and shelters is not their strong point; they are ideologically closer to a raider takeover. An attic or shed is an ideal place to hide. There the stone marten will hide during the day, for great things await it at night.





And before great things there must be a great dinner. Preferably from eggs stolen from a chicken coop.

To raid a chicken coop, crushing a bird there, cause a riot in a store near the house, chew cables, disable wheeled vehicles - that’s what the crazy beast does. But he doesn’t do this out of malice. It’s just that the animals are extremely curious, smart and fearless. This combo gives the martens carte blanche for disgusting behavior.



But all of the above is just pranks. In April and November 2016, the world scientific community was terribly shocked by the facts of the shutdown of the hadron collider. Can you guess who had a hand in disabling the device for seven billion bukazoids? Yes, a chewed power cable and an encounter with a transformer cost the lives of two different stone martens, but it also made them legends of the animal world. The carcass of one of them was presented at an exhibition at the Rotterdam Museum of Natural History.



But martens didn’t always do nasty things to us. Moreover, there are suggestions that in ancient times it was this species that replaced cats for people - the stone marten caught rodents and snakes, keeping barns safe and human health intact.



Now it seems that homosapiens are very lucky, that inquisitive animals are terrible individualists. Having carved out a territory ranging from 12 to 200 hectares, they carefully protect it from encroachments of their own kind. Even love, which unexpectedly arrives once a year, does not make significant adjustments to their value system.



After mating, the gentleman disappears in an unknown direction. Since cupid overtakes martens in the summer, the female estimates: she will have to spend a month with her belly, another four will be spent on training her descendants, and then winter is in full swing - she’s strained with provisions. Therefore, the expectant mother freezes the pregnancy for six months. Embryos will begin to develop only when the situation is favorable. This is what I understand, a planned pregnancy!



For a long time, babies are completely helpless. They open their eyes only after a month!

In the spring, in March-April, up to 6 cubs are born. Having grown claws and teeth, having gained intelligence, they will make noise in the forests, mountains and a little bandit next to a person. But you'll have to be patient. They're not doing this out of malice!
