People thought that they raised a mastiff for 2 years - but it turned out to be a wild animal (5 photos)
One family got what they thought was a Tibetan mastiff. Everything was fine, the “pet” was growing up, and only two years later the owners began to notice something strange - this made them think that they had not got a mastiff...
A family from a Chinese village in Yunnan province took care of a Tibetan mastiff for two years when they suddenly discovered that their “pet” was not a dog at all. They adopted him when he was still small, but after a while they began to notice something strange. The “dog” had a strong appetite - he could eat a box of fruit and two bowls of noodles at one time. The pet's weight also alerted the owners. While regular mastiffs can weigh up to 70 kilograms, their favorite has grown to 113 kg. When the pet began to try to walk on its hind legs, they finally realized that it was definitely not a dog.
Over time, the mastiff began to resemble a bear: “The more he grew, the more he looked like a bear. I was a little afraid of it,” said the owner, Su Yun. When the owners asked for help from organizations working with animals, their guesses were confirmed. All this time, the family raised not a mastiff, but a Himalayan bear.
In China, many animals are sold on black markets for big money. Perhaps the family from the village just wanted to adopt a pet, and did not particularly know about breeds - so they took care of the pet without suspicion. This bear eventually ended up at an animal rescue center in Yunnan, where he now lives under the care of staff. This is not the first such case in China. In March 2018, a man from the same province found a bear in the forest, and, thinking it was a stray dog, took it in as a pet.
