How ospreys dive or hawks that became excellent swimmers (3 photos + 1 video)
Some hawks are excellent divers.
There are a huge number of birds that feed on fish and constantly live near the water. But hawks are definitely not what comes to mind when thinking about birds that have mastered the skills of swimmers. However, ospreys are precisely those same hawk-like animals that feed almost exclusively on fish and have learned to catch them.
The osprey is found on every continent except Antarctica. The diet of these birds is approximately 99% fish. Of course, these birds also feed on voles, small snakes or lizards. However, their favorite food is found in the water, and the way ospreys hunt them can be impressive.
Sometimes a bird flies over a pond and, seeing prey, dives after it. But still, more often the osprey sits at an altitude of about 30 meters, looking for its lunch. As soon as any fish is close to the surface, the bird quickly flies after it. For a few seconds the hawk plunges into the water, and now lunch is already in its tenacious paws. Look how cleverly these birds fish.
