Sometimes they decide to use the same actors in film remakes as in the original, but this time in a different role. Here are some examples

Burt Reynolds - The Longest Yard (1974)/ All or Nothing (2005)

In 1974, the film "The Longest Yard" was released, telling the story of a football player named Paul Crewe, who went to prison, but who continued to play even in places not so remote. The main role of Paul Crewe himself was played by the famous actor Burt Reynolds.

In 2005, the film “All or Nothing” was released (although this is how it was translated only here. In the original it is also called “The Longest Yard”), which is a remake of the film “The Longest Yard.” But this time the role of Paul Crewe was played by the famous comedian Adam Sandler.

However, the main actor of the original film found a place here (for the sake of reference, of course). Burt Reynolds played the role of coach Ney Scarborough in this remake.

Charlton Hester - Planet of the Apes (1968)/ Planet of the Apes (2001)

Planet of the Apes, 1968

As you probably know, in the original Planet of the Apes film (1968) there are very few people, as the intelligent apes dominate the film. Well, the main role of George Taylor (just a man) was played by actor Charlton Hester.

Planet of the Apes, 2001

In 2001, Tim Burton released his film Planet of the Apes starring Mark Wahlberg. But actor Charlton Hester also found some room for fan service. Specifically, the actor played the role of the dying father of General Teid - Zaius.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts - "Ghostbusters" (1984)/ "Ghostbusters" (2016)

Ghostbusters, 1984

In the cult film "Ghostbusters" the main roles were played by such actors as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The role of Dana went to the star of the film "Alien" Sigourney Weaver, and the role of the secretary Janinne went to actress Annie Potts.

Dan Aykroyd had long been hatching a plan to create a third part of the Ghostbusters film, but nothing worked out for him.

Ghostbusters, 2016

Only in 2016 the new film “Ghostbusters” was released. True, this was no longer a continuation, but a remake, and a female one, which many fans of the series did not like.

But be that as it may, even in this remake we can again see the actors from the original, who were “lifted up” as a reference and fan service. For example:

Bill Murray, who played Dr. Peter Vankman, had a small role as Martin Heiss in the remake.

Dan Aykroyd, who played Dr. Ray Stantz, played a small role as a taxi driver.

Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddmore in the original, plays Patty's uncle Bill Jenkins in the remake.

Sigourney Weaver, who played Dana in the original, received a small role in the remake as Rebecca Gorin (Dr. Holtzmann's mentor).

Well, Annie Potts, who played Janine in the original, got a small role as a hotel administrator named Vanessa.

Harold Ramis, who played Dr. Egon Spangler in the original, died back in 2011, which is why we didn’t see him in the remake.

However, the original cast of hunters did return in 2021 for a soft reboot called Ghostbusters: Descendants. There the actors were able to return to their roles again, and with the help of computer technology they even “revitalized” Harold Ramis (Well, how did they revive? They brought him back as a ghost).

Michael Caine - Game of Thrones (1972)/ Sleuth (2007)

The film Game of Thrones is a rather interesting detective thriller starring Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. True, there were basically no other actors in the film, despite the fact that in the credits they gave us a whole list of actors who played in this film. It was the director who decided to make a joke so that the audience would watch the film expecting to see someone else on the screen. But no one except Kane and Olivier appeared.

Game of Thrones, 1972

Laurence Olivier played a certain aristocrat and writer Andrew Wyke, and Michael Caine played the role of the lover of Wyke's wife named Milo Tindle. In the story, the aristocrat invites Milo into the house, making him a supposedly lucrative offer to play a game with him, but it turns out that he only wanted to kill his wife’s lover.

Detective, 2007

In 2007, the film "Detective" was released, which is a remake of the film "Game of Knockouts". The film again features only two actors, but this time the role of Milo went to Jude Law, while the aged Michael Caine played Andrew Wyke.

Dmitry Kharatyan - "Prank" (1976)/ "Prank" (2008)

Prank, 1976

The film "Prank" by Vladimir Menshov became the debut for the future actor Dmitry Kharatyan. At the time of filming, he was only 16 years old, but in the film he immediately got the main role of Igor Grushko, a student of 9 "B", who is so passionate about music that he assembles his own school musical ensemble.

Prank, 2008

In 2008, a remake of “The Hoax” was released, in which Dmitry Kharatyan also appeared. But this time he played, of course, not a schoolboy (after all, his age), but the father of Oleg Komarov, the main antagonist of the film.

Christopher Reeve - "Superman" (1978)/ Smallville (TV series, 2001-2007)

The role of the very first Superman on screen was played by actor Christopher Reeve, who returned to this role three more times until 1987.

Unfortunately, in 1995, Christopher fell from a horse, breaking his cervical vertebrae, which left him paralyzed for life. Naturally, after this, one could forget about a film career. Of course, he appeared in small and episodic roles in some projects, but it was not the same.

However, in the early 00s, Christopher was still able to participate in another project about Superman. We are, of course, talking about the TV series Smallville, which tells about the early years of the future Superman - Clark Kent.

Smallville, 2001-2007

In this series, Christopher Reeve appeared in a small role (2 episodes) of the paralyzed doctor Virgil Swann.

If you remember any other films and their remakes, where the same actors played different roles, then write about it in the comments.
