Fear and laughter are a rare combination in cinema. It's even harder to find films in this genre that are worth watching. In this collection - just like that. 
1. Beetlejuice (1988)

Cast: Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Geoffrey Jones
Tim Burton's afterlife comedy features a particularly manic performance from Michael Keaton. And although this film is about two ghosts (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) whose house is now "habited" by a living family laughing at their fears, there are still plenty of super creepy moments - like the exorcism ritual at the end.
2. Urban Legend (1998)
Director: Jamie Blanks
Cast: Alicia Witt, Jared Leto, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, Joshua Jackson 
It's not exactly funny, but this 1990s thriller is a hidden gem among horror films. The restless reporter eager to uncover the identity of the campus killer, a role previously played by Courteney Cox in Scream, is played here by Jared Leto. Despite the simple plot, Jared Leto and Robert Englund (whom we remember as Freddy Krueger) as a university professor are quite a reason to spend an hour and a half watching.
3. Fresh (2022)
Director: Mimi Cave
Cast: Daisy Edgar-Jones, Sebastian Stan, JoJo T. Gibbs, Andrea Bang, Dayo Okeniyi
The main character Noah (played by Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones), who has experienced all the horrors of online dating, meets an attractive guy in a store (Sebastian Stan from The Avengers) and leaves with him out of town. The new lover turns out to be a chef who prefers to prepare dishes from young girls.
4. “I'm going to look”/ Ready or Not (2019)
Director: Matthew Bettinelli, Tyler Gillett
Cast: Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Mark O'Brien, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell 
A unique interpretation of the “final girl” storyline: the bride tries to survive on her wedding night by playing hide and seek with her new relatives. The film has some truly funny moments and Samara Weaving is wonderful as Grace, a newlywed who has the worst wedding night imaginable. You won't even notice how 90 minutes fly by, waiting for the next bloody murder.
5. Deadly Attraction/ Heathers (1988)
Director: Michael Lehmann
Cast: Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, Kim Walker 
The iconic phrase “fuck me gently with a chainsaw” comes from this 1980s film that set the trend for mean girls stories. Goth queen Winona Ryder covers up school murders by flirting with stereotypes of teenage depression. Despite the fact that the film was a box office failure at the time, it gained cult status and was even adapted for Broadway.
6. American Psycho (2000)
Director: Mary Harron
Cast: Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Josh Lucas, Reese Witherspoon, Cara Seymour 
Featuring Batman (Christian Bale) and the Joker (Jared Leto), this satire will make you laugh even in its most serious moments. Bale's magnificent performance makes one wonder whether the events actually happened or whether they are a figment of the hero's imagination.
7. “Drag Me To Hell” (2009)
Director: Sam Raimi
Cast: Alison Lohman, Justin Long, Lorna Raver, Dilip Rao, David Paymer
Don't be put off by the title - this is a truly creepy and homeric funny film that keeps the viewer in suspense throughout the entire viewing. In the story, a young bank employee refuses to defer a loan to an old gypsy woman, and she curses her. Sam Raimi, the creator of the famous "Evil Dead", once again delights the viewer with dark humor and a controversial ending.
8. Child's Play (2019)

Cast: Gabriel Bateman, Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, Mark Hamill, Tim Matheson 
A new adaptation of the 80's classic with the same little boy Andy and his cute doll Chucky, who becomes overprotective and kills all his loved ones. But what makes the remake more significant than the original is that Chucky learns to kill by adopting the style of the horror films he watches with Andy. Not only does Chucky bring a comedic aspect to the film, but so does Aubrey Plaza, who plays Andy's distant mom.
9. “Game”/ Freaky (2020)
Director: Christopher Landon
Cast: Vince Vaughn, Kathryn Newton, Katie Finneran, Celeste O'Connor, Misha Osherovich 
A mix of “Freaky Friday” and “Friday the 13th”, the third film directed by Christopher Landon (“Happy Death Day”), which uses the idea of “heroes switching bodies” in an original and rather funny way: in the plot, a maniac ends up in the body of a schoolgirl, and she has 24 hours to regain her essence and not get caught by the police.
10. Serial Mom (1994)
Director: John Waters
Cast: Kathleen Turner, Sam Waterston, Ricki Lake, Matthew Lillard, Scott Morgan 
An underrated horror story that launched the career of Matthew Lillard (Scream) in the early 1990s. The perfect mother is willing to do anything to make her children happy, even if it means murder.
11. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Director: Edgar Wright
Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Kate Ashfield, Lucy Davis, Dylan Moran
Edgar Rye's directorial debut is a horror film parody he co-wrote with Simon Pegg. Sean spends his Groundhog Day commuting to work, playing video games with his best friend, and crushing on his ex. Sean is pulled out of his comatose despondency by the zombie apocalypse that has broken out in London. Now is the time to act if he wants to protect his friend, his mother and the love of his life.
12. “Killer Vacation”/ Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)
Director: Eli Craig
Cast: Tyler Labine, Alan Tudyk, Katrina Bowden, Jesse Moss, Philip Granger 
An unusual black comedy with a message: it teaches you not to judge a book by its cover. The film rejects common stereotypes, such as the idea that most horror films have a scary antagonist, and instead makes you care about the main characters who are misunderstood due to their appearance.
13. “End of the World 2013: Apocalypse Hollywood Style”/ This is the End (2013)
Director: Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg
Cast: Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson 
A group of famous comedians (Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson) are trying to survive the apocalypse that overtook them during a loud party at James Franco's. Cameo appearances from Rihanna, Emma Watson and, yes, the Backstreet Boys brighten up the story.
14. “Real Ghouls”/ What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

Cast: Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Jonathan Brugh, Cory Gonzalez-Macuer, Stu Rutherford 
Taika Watiti's film about vampires living in the same apartment is famous. It was adapted into a very popular television series, but nothing can beat the original.
15. Happy Death Day (2017)

Groundhog Day directed by Blumhouse. A college student relives the day of her murder over and over again until she is able to unmask the killer and escape.
16. Jennifer's Body (2009)

Cast: Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Simmons, Adam Brody, J.K. Simmons 
A high school cheerleader (Megan Fox), possessed by a demon, begins killing boys who lust after her. Her friend (Amanda Seyfried) tries to stop the bloodshed.
17. Clue (1985)

Cast: Eileen Brennan, Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean

The film, directed by Drew Goddard (who co-wrote it with Joss Whedon), begins as a typical horror film: a group of unsuspecting college students go to a remote cabin in the middle of nowhere for a weekend filled with alcohol, drugs and sex. Monsters are waiting for them there. But this film takes a postmodern twist, turning the slasher film into a satire.
29. “Scream”/ Scream (1996)

Cast: Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard 
A group of teenage girls is first pursued and then killed one by one by a maniac in a hood and mask. He's just obsessed with horror movies. But, in the best traditions of Wes Craven's postmodern horror satire, he makes it hilariously ridiculous.
30. An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Director: John Landis
Cast: David Naughton, Jenny Agutter, Griffin Dunne, John Woodvine, David Scofield
John Landis changed the way people thought about werewolf films with a comedy horror about two American tourists, David and Jack (David Naughton and Griffin Dune), who were attacked by a wolf in an English outback. Survivor David wakes up in a London hospital, where the resurrected Jack introduces him to the harsh reality that David will soon turn into a werewolf.
