4 buildings whose appearance would never guess their purpose (5 photos)
We are accustomed to the fact that by the appearance of a building we can at least approximately understand what is located in it. However, this doesn't always work.
A striking example of this is 4 buildings from our selection that surprise tourists with their non-obvious purpose.
Cardiff Tower, USA
In 1966, an interesting structure in the form of a synagogue, albeit without windows, appeared on the territory of Beverly Hills. The decision to build this building did not seem surprising, since the area at that time was a “Jewish enclave.” However, the true purpose of the building was declassified by the absence of windows. But later it became known that under the guise of a synagogue, one well-known oil company decided to disguise its drilling rigs. This was done so as not to spoil the appearance of the area.
Kijeong-dong, North Korea
In the middle of the last century, an amazing settlement appeared on the border of North and South Korea - the village of Kijeongdong. It is noteworthy that not a single local resident appeared in it. All because this village was not real. The area is clearly visible from South Korea, and the gentrified village was built to promote the good life. With this, the government wanted to attract migrants from the neighboring country. In fact, fake houses, schools and kindergartens were installed on the territory of the village, which inside were just boxes without real living quarters. Subsequently, the feint was noticed and declassified.
Statue of James Henry Greathead, UK
This monument, erected in the 90s of the last century in the capital of the country, ended up there for a reason. In fact, this is not a monument, but a real building, because inside it hides real ventilation. Initially, it was decided to build a classic ventilation hole on the territory of the capital, but it looked awkward, and it was covered with a statue.
Buildings of the THUMS Islands, USA
All the buildings here are also a kind of dummy and were built to cover up oil production activities. Outwardly, it seems as if the islands are continuous resort spots and amusement parks, but all this makes it possible to beautifully cover the production of almost 40 thousand barrels of oil per day.
