The Internet is a useful thing. Here you can find a bunch of useful information, interesting facts, and watch educational videos. But it also has a dark side: for example, “challenges” or flash mobs, in which users perform various actions while filming themselves on camera. All this is for the sake of views and a moment of fame. These are often dangerous tasks that pose a risk to life. Fortunately, many of them have already sunk into oblivion. Let's take a look at a few of these trends.

1. "Challenge" with Nyquil

Nyquil is a liquid medicine for colds and coughs. But online they came up with a different way to use it - to cook chicken in it. One after another, users posted videos of themselves cooking chicken in Nyquil. Besides being disgusting, it comes with health risks. Taking the drug orally in large quantities can cause hallucinations and even death.

2. Glue on lips

As part of this trend, girls smeared superglue on their upper lip to “lift” it and make their lips visually fuller. It's not that dangerous, but you shouldn't go to such extremes for the sake of likes.

3. Solar tattoos

This trend involves deliberately getting sunburned. People smeared sunscreen on their bodies, leaving an empty space in the form of a certain pattern. Then they went to sunbathe to such an extent that the skin turned red and a “sun tattoo” appeared in the place where there was no cream.

4. The “eat with packaging” trend

As part of this trend, users ate fruit, burgers and other foods with the wrapper - or, for example, a banana with the peel. The doctors did not approve of him. Fortunately, the challenge was not so widespread.

5. Garbage bag and vacuum cleaner trend

Here TikTokers climbed into a garbage bag, and someone nearby used a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out of the bag - until the moment when the bag would not fit tightly to the body. There are also many videos online where parents carry out this trend with their children.

6. Three liters of milk in one gulp

As part of the challenge, users tried to drink 3 liters of milk in less than an hour. One guy managed it in 20 seconds. However, the human body is not capable of digesting such an amount of milk in one sitting. Therefore, the result was that many people vomited before they finished the bottle.

7. Blue whale

A terrible trend that made headlines at the time. Within its framework, it was necessary to complete the “game” with tasks within 50 days, and on the 50th day the player was offered to commit suicide. At the height of the game's popularity, there were cases of suicide among teenagers.

8. Benadryl

The Benadryl allergy drug challenge has been appearing on Youtube and TikTok since at least 2020. It was consumed in large quantities to get a high and experience hallucinations. Several teenagers have been hospitalized and died due to the trend.

9. "Put a coin in the socket"

The essence of the trend is to insert the phone charging plug into the socket, and then touch its teeth with a coin. At best, this results in electrical damage and sparks flying in all directions, and at worst, personal injury and fire.

10. Dangerous car trend

This trend has been called one of the most dangerous. The man behind the wheel drives to the song "Cha Cha Slide", turning the steering wheel left, right, or crosswise, following the words in the song.

11. Eating hot peppers on camera

The idea is simple - eat hot chili peppers and film your reaction. Most often, users ate the Carolina Reaper pepper, which is considered the hottest in the world. However, in its raw form, such pepper is harmful to health. It can cause burns, often causes vomiting, and has even caused asthma attacks in some.

12. Playing with a knife

The game involves placing your hand on a flat surface and inserting a knife into the spaces between your fingers at different speeds. It has been featured in films, television and video games, which is why the trend is still popular today - despite its dangers.

13. Challenge with electric shocker

The essence of the trend is to insert a metal knife into the mouth, and then use a stun gun on the knife, delivering an electric shock. Many who have attempted this challenge have gone to hospital and suffered brain damage. Deaths have also been reported.

14. Boiling water

The trend started on Youtube and was performed by children. As part of this challenge, boiling water was poured onto an unsuspecting “victim”. Due to this unfortunate trend, many deaths of children under the age of 8 have been recorded. One boy suffered third degree burns.

15. Planking

The main rule of planking is to lie on your stomach with your arms along your body, and take pictures in the most unpredictable places. But even this, some netizens have gone too far. One man died trying to perform this stunt on a balcony.

16. Alcohol challenge

As part of a flash mob, people drink large amounts of alcohol in one sitting. During this time, they are filmed, including their drunken antics after drinking. After this task, many ended up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

17. Eating sour candy

The essence of the trend is to eat as many Warheads sour candies as possible as quickly as possible. This can cause damage to the taste buds and, in severe cases, cause blisters and scarring on the tongue. A 4-year-old girl's tongue was seriously damaged after this "challenge".

18. "Lips like Kylie Jenner"

This trend started in 2015 in an attempt to resemble model Kylie Jenner. The girls began to apply a small container to their lips and “sucked” it, holding it on their lips for some time. Then you get plump lips. However, the challenge is dangerous - and can cause bruising, scarring and even lip discoloration.

19. Salt and ice

Fortunately, this trend has already gone out of fashion. The task was to coat your palm with salt and then apply ice to the salted area. This causes severe pain and burns, but bloggers actively filmed videos of their suffering and published them on YouTube. Doctors even had to warn people that this could lead to permanent skin damage and scarring, and in some cases even require skin grafts.

20. "Break the Skull"

The goal is for two people to knock down a third person so that he falls on his back. As a result, many teenagers ended up in hospitals with concussions and severe spinal injuries. Even TikTok has since once again made a public statement that any "challenge" that could lead to injury is directly against their community guidelines - such dangerous content is removed from the platform.

21. "Walk through the boxes"

Here, plastic milk crates are lined up into a pyramid, which you then have to walk from start to finish. However, boxes stacked this way are very unstable - so the challenge often led to injury.

22. Cinnamon trend

This trend started around 2001, but reached popularity in 2012. The task is to eat a spoonful of cinnamon. It sounds simple, but it often caused participants to gag, and some inhaled cinnamon into their lungs, causing difficulty breathing.

23. Trend after the movie "Bird Box"

As part of the trend, people blindfolded themselves in various situations. It started harmlessly enough: streamers and gamers played video games blindfolded, but the situation soon got out of control. Many were blindfolded and walked through the streets. Someone even was blindfolded while driving while stuck in a traffic jam.

24. Setting fire

Here, YouTube denizens set themselves on fire for views. The task was to dip your hand in some flammable liquid, or spread it on yourself, and set it on fire. In many cases, the fire began to spread, sending dozens of teenagers and children to the hospital.

25. Eating laundry pods

The challenge involved eating a laundry capsule - on camera, of course. Many people experienced a burning sensation in their mouths after the challenge, while others ended up in the hospital with poisoning. After this, even the company that produced these capsules spoke out, warning users about the dangers of the trend.
