Oh, these fairy tales! Oh, these storytellers!

The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001-2003)

To avoid any questions in the comments, let’s say right away that the best fantasy is Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and let’s move on.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

A cruel fairy tale by Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, The Devil's Backbone) about a Faun and a girl who must pass three tests in secret from her fascist stepfather in order to return to the magic kingdom.

The Princess Bride (1987)

The Dread Pirate Roberts, also known as farmhand Westley, who is in love with the beautiful girl Buttercup; the skilled swordsman Inigo Montoya, who dreams of taking revenge on the six-fingered robber for the murder of his father; Greenland giant Fezzik; the treacherous Prince Humperdinck; the criminal genius from Venice Vizzini - all these are the heroes of a simple but exciting fairy tale that a grandfather, played by Peter Falk, reads to his grandson who has a cold. The fairy tale, and then a film script based on it, was written by screenwriter William Goldman, who became famous not for fairy tales at all ("All the President's Men", "The Moth"). The film was directed by Rob Reiner (“Misery,” “Stand by Me”).

The Neverending Story (1984)

Bastian Books, a boy who recently lost his mother, hides in a bookstore to escape three school bullies on the street, and ends up “borrowing” a book called “The Neverending Story” with a strange amulet on the cover. Together with Bux, the viewer learns from the book about the land of Fantasy, which is being devoured by Something. “The NeverEnding Story” was directed by Wolfgang Peterson (“Submarine,” “The Perfect Storm”).

Evenings on a farm near Dikanka (1961)

An ideal adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's story, made by the great Soviet storyteller Alexander Row. The film is ideal to watch on New Year's Eve or the night before Christmas. The film has remarkable special effects even by modern standards, so “Evenings on the Farm” has not lost much in its entertainment value over the past decades, especially in the eyes of young viewers.

Warcraft (2016)

Video game adaptations usually turn out so-so, but Warcraft is a pleasant exception to the rule. Azeroth came out exactly as gamers around the world imagined it, even the camera sometimes hovers over the battlefield, like in the game. The famous game was filmed by David Bowie's son Duncan Jones.

Stardust (2007)

An adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman, author of American Gods, Good Omens (with Terry Pratchett) with an excellent cast: Charlie Cox (now known to everyone as Daredevil), Claire Danes (Homeland series), Michelle Pfeiffer, Mark Strong , Robert DeNiro.

Bridge to Terabithia (2006)

If you have given up hope of finding your way to the magical world, try creating a wonderful land yourself. For this, however, you may need childlike spontaneity, faith in miracles and a lot of imagination, but somewhere they are hiding inside us, they have not disappeared without a trace with age. The heroes of the family fantasy "Bridge to Terabithia" did just that - Jess and Leslie, traveling through the forests, came across an old tree house, its children are turning it into a secret place, a fairy-tale world called Terabithia, full of amazing creatures.

Dogma (1999)

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as fallen angels exiled to Earth, Alan Rickman as the archangel Meatatron, George Carlin as the Cardinal, Jay and Silent Bob, Shit Demon and finally singer Alanis Morissette as God in one of Kevin Smith's best films "Dogma" ".

Constantine: Lord of Darkness (2005)

The film is based on the 1988 comic book series Hellblazer. In the comic there was an Englishman with the appearance of the singer Sting, and in the movie John Constantine was played by Keanu Reeves. The film barely made back its budget at the box office, so it did not receive a sequel. However, Keanu, who recently starred in the sequel to “The Matrix” and even earlier returned to the image of Ted Logan in the film “Bill & Ted Back in Business,” said in an interview that he would be glad to participate in the sequel to “Constantine.”
