The trend for game adaptations has returned: the most anticipated and interesting adaptations (11 photos + 2 videos)

Game adaptations are back in trend again. For a long time, filmmakers either abandoned projects or created a very mediocre product, although it would seem that there is ready-made material and money, all that remains is to competently transfer everything to the screen. But somehow it didn’t work out.

Now, streaming services have actively taken up the task of transferring games into the format of films or TV series. It is likely that not all adaptations will turn out to be interesting, but they are worth paying attention to, if only because of the plot of the original source and the unusual virtual world presented in it.

For example, the studio dj2 Entertainment, which filmed Sonic, decided to transfer It Takes Two to the screens. True, the format of the film or series has not yet been decided.

Either way, the game presented a solid story with plenty of crazy moments and a great central premise about a couple on the brink of divorce turning into their daughter's playthings. By the way, several large streaming services are now fighting for the rights to this film adaptation.

The dj2 Entertainment studio is also producing series based on the acclaimed role-playing game Disco Elysium and the action film about an undercover cop in the Hong Kong triads Sleeping Dogs. At least it sounds very interesting.

What else is worth paying attention to?

For example, the film adaptation of Uncharted, which will be released on big screens in February of this year. The film will be dedicated to the young adventurer Nathan Drake, whose role went to Tom Holland, who is at his peak. Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas will also appear in the film.

In addition, the Halo series will start very soon. There are already a lot of people who want to see the Master Chief’s fight with the Covenant, which is not surprising. After all, Steven Spielberg himself wrote the script for the original game. The main thing is that the creators of the film treat the source material with care, and not the way Netflix did with The Witcher.

They also decided to involve the director of the John Wick film series in the film adaptations of the games. For example, he will be making a film based on Ghost of Tsushima, which tells the story of the last samurai from his clan, resisting the invading Mongols.

He will also produce an R-rated series based on the simple game My Friend Pedro about a masked killer who communicates with a talking banana named Pedro. Considering how spectacular the John Wick trilogy turned out, both projects should be dynamic.

It is expected that the largest streaming platforms will not refuse film adaptations of games. For example, HBO (in particular, the creators of Chernobyl) will begin bringing The Last of Us to screens, Amazon will produce a series based on Fallout, and Netflix will begin producing a series based on the relatively recent Cyberpunk.

Time will tell how successful these ideas will be. What film adaptations would you watch?
