Why cats hate closed doors and demand to open them all (8 photos)
If you are an experienced cat lover, then the doors in your house probably close and open very carefully, and even more likely, they are simply always open and propped up with something so that they do not slam. Because the phenomenon called “a sudden cat in the doorway” is commonplace for you.
Why do cats get angry at the sight of locked doors?
Because it's a mess!
“I’m a free cat, I go where I please and walk on my own.” Many cats perceive locked doors to any room as some kind of restriction of freedom, so they try to restore justice with the help of improvised means.
Overcoming obstacles is the path of a warrior cat, so it’s easier to come to terms with a cat’s love of freedom than to build barricades on the path of the Force and constantly renew the paint on a frame torn by claws.
Cats need to control the territory and household members
When cats demand all the doors in the house be opened for them, they are not just showing curiosity (although this, of course, is also). The cat perceives the apartment as its controlled territory, and it definitely needs to know what is happening in every corner of it.
What are you doing? ????????????
Is everything okay, has a stranger entered the house, what are the owners doing, do they need help, is everything okay with them? Be sure to check everything so that the cat’s soul is calm.
Human interaction, human management
The “open-close” game is also aimed at testing the communication settings with a person and practicing understanding. For a cat, pulling the strings of bipedal control is both fun and serious business.
When a cat realizes that it can influence a person through its demands, it actually receives pleasant emotions. This way, she understands that she can technically convey her desires to a person (and we are very different, and oh, how difficult it is!) and can, to some extent, take control of him - and this calms him down and gives him a feeling of self-importance. When a cat is taken into account, her wishes are respected, and she is loved, she feels happy.
Need to find the right weather
If a cat demands to close the entrance and/or balcony door several times a day, it means he is looking for doors in the summer. Cats do not accept calendars; they just want weather suitable for a walk to appear outside the door as soon as possible. It doesn’t matter - in the morning or after lunch. You just need to check periodically.
Walking on the balcony is good, just don’t forget to put screens on the windows if the balcony is not glazed.
Should we blame the cat for this? If we didn't have calendars and weather forecasts, we would probably also come to the door several times a day.
