What disgusting thing is yours... Soviet delicacies that modern children do not understand (10 photos)
The grass used to be greener and the sky bluer. And sugar is sweeter. However, in an era of general shortage, it already acted as a delicacy in itself. And Soviet housewives had to show miracles of imagination in order to please the children and create delicious food from what was at hand. However, it worked out well.
Cake analogue
Regular cookies layered with regular butter. Back then, even a simple “Yubileynoe” seemed like a delicacy - crumbly, aromatic, without a chemical aftertaste. And for true sweet tooths, it was possible to add an additional floor to such a sandwich to make it even tastier and bigger.
Homemade lollipop
The cooking process is primitive, the result is delicious. Some prepared lollipops in vegetable oil, rather than just boiling syrup, and poured the mixture into special molds. The common name is “Cockerel on a stick”, since almost all sets contained a mold of this vocal bird.
Dry jelly
Of course, this semi-finished product had to be prepared in accordance with the instructions, but Soviet children loved to chew jelly briquettes in dry form.
Sandwich with jam
An ordinary loaf (however, brown bread was a great success) plus jam. These sandwiches flew away in seconds. The most popular type of jam, as now, was strawberry. Instead of jam, they also used honey and thick homemade apple jam.
Fried sausage
Even a sausage product that is not particularly tasty can be consumed after being fried. During the Soviet era, when sausage began to more or less spread, a sandwich with a toasted slice became the most popular snack. Not too healthy, but filling and very tasty. This is just the thing when you need to have a quick breakfast or a quick snack and rush off on business.
Boiled condensed milk
Nowadays there are a lot of brands of boiled condensed milk in any store. And in the USSR, they cooked condensed milk themselves: they placed the jar in boiling water, reduced the heat and cooked the delicacy for several hours. It was impossible to leave, because the product could simply explode and destroy the kitchen so that lovers of sweets had to carry out unscheduled repair work.
Salted bread
A piece of black bread was doused with vegetable oil, added some salt and... it’s simply impossible to imagine anything tastier. Although, no, you can: if you put thinly sliced lard on top and sprinkle the structure with finely chopped green onions. Gastronomic ecstasy is guaranteed.
Sparkling water from the machine
And, of course, not only food, but also drinks were considered a delicacy. Water from a water pump in the yard or soda from a machine. I drank a glass and went back into battle - to play, be mischievous, and explore the world.
In general, modern children do not understand the charm of these simple delights. And they have completely different taste preferences. Which is natural, because the same will happen with new generations.
What delicacies from childhood do you remember with particular warmth?
