Films whose plots were invented literally on the fly (5 photos)

Before filming a film, fruitful work is carried out on the script, which is usually worked on by several screenwriters, a director, producers and sometimes even actors. In the course of the work, thousands of pages can be covered, different options for finals and much more can be presented. All this is necessary so that the director is busy during filming only with filming, and not with rewriting the script.

But there are films whose scripts were far from ideal, and in the end they had to be remade during filming.

"World War Z"

World War Z is the notoriously great zombie movie that cinema has been missing. Great scope, good graphics, excellent actors, interesting plot and original zombies - all this was in "World War Z". But the film did not live up to the studio's expectations, as it grossed only $540 million. I had to forget about the continuation, although there were conversations about it even 6 years later.

The film distinguished itself from many others at that time due to its large-scale reshoots. It turned out that the studio and Brad Pitt himself did not like the first option, so it was decided to completely correct the third act and some moments in the first two. The film needed a calmer yet more intense ending.

As a result, Brad Pitt's character ended up in a scientific laboratory, where he miraculously found the right medicine among dozens of others, and thus gave the world a chance to be saved.

Deleting the storyline and reshooting cost the studio $20 million. It's impossible to say. that they paid off in full. Perhaps if the film had stuck with the first ending, it would have had a better chance of success.

"28 Days Later"

Another rewritten script is also associated with a zombie film. “28 Days Later” is a cult film that was one of the first to popularize fast zombies. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson and others.

Even though the script for the film was finally written, no one liked the original ending, so three more versions were written.

In the original ending, which did not make it into the film, Frank becomes infected, but the heroes do not abandon him, but end up in a laboratory, where they learn that an infected person can be cured by completely transfusing him with the blood of a healthy person. It was only during filming that the filmmakers realized. that this point is completely illogical, because during a transfusion, one drop of infected blood is enough to infect the rest of the blood, so it is impossible to save a person without killing him.

After this, alternative endings appeared. In both, Jim dies in the hospital and everyone else survives. In the ending, which was included in the film, Jim still survives.

"Predator" (1987)

The Predator movie seemed like a failure from the very beginning. Jean-Claude Van Damme was considered for the role of the Predator himself, but he ultimately dropped out of production. Why did this happen? For some reason, each witness has completely different stories. Some said that Jean-Claude refused to do the stunt, which angered the director, some said that the actor broke an expensive helmet, the rest of the options as to why Van Damme lost the role are also different, and none of them agrees with at least some of the others.

As a result, the actor had to be replaced, but this was only the beginning of the problems. They wanted to give the Predator two swords located behind his back and an underwater gun, but this weapon clung to the uncomfortable suit, so it had to be abandoned.

Then voice actor Peter Cullen lost his voice before starting work, and therefore was unable to voice the Predator the way everyone originally wanted. Instead, it started making clicking noises, which seemed ridiculous, but ended up working.

"Jaws"

For Steven Spielberg, Jaws is his directorial debut, so it is not surprising that it was accompanied by a real nightmare for Steven himself. The animatronic shark kept breaking down, causing filming to slow down significantly. Spielberg planned to show the shark in all its glory from the very beginning, but problems associated with the animatronic shark forced him to greatly limit the presence of the shark in the frame, which, by the way, was extremely insufficient, which forced Spielberg to use footage of a real shark that accidentally ended up in the net during filming.
