Wedding celebrations are filled with rituals and traditions among all the people of the world. What about the wedding night? Are there customs regarding this? Still as it is! And what!

1. Serenades under the window

In France, the first marriage ceremony was noisy. And it’s not just about the newlyweds themselves and their passion. According to tradition, all their friends and relatives gathered under the window of the newlyweds and sang (read yelled), “playing along” to themselves on frying pans and pots. And they only stopped when the newlyweds offered them something to drink or eat.

2. First wedding night in the barn

Have you dreamed all your life that you would spend your first marriage ceremony in a five-star hotel? But on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, the newlyweds spent the first night on straw in a barn or other outbuilding outside the house, where they were expelled by guests. Not very romantic.

3. The more people, the better

In 18th-century Europe, several people close to the bride and groom could observe the act itself. This was done in order to officially confirm that the marriage took place.

4. Cheese in bed

In Scotland, there was once a tradition of taking cheese to bed for good luck. The cheese, crushed between the towels, gave off a special aroma.

5. Do not visit the toilet or bathe for three days in a row.

In Indonesia and Malaysia, newlyweds were not allowed to use the toilet or bathroom for three days after the wedding. They were not allowed to leave the house and were given the bare minimum amount of food and drink.

6. Indian bedspreads

The bride was hiding under the covers in the bedroom, surrounded by her family members. The groom entered the room with his relatives and tried to determine which side of the veil hid his face and which side covered his legs. The bride's family confused the newlywed and sent him on the wrong trail. If the groom guessed where the bride’s head was, then, according to the sign, he will live on equal terms with the bride throughout the marriage. If the groom accidentally chose his legs, he was obliged to serve the bride for the rest of his life.

7. Fishing

In Korea, the groom's friends gathered together to help him on his wedding night. They took off the groom's socks, tied his feet and hit his heels with fish. During the game, the newlywed was interrogated, and if his answers seemed unsatisfactory to his friends, he was beaten even harder. It was generally believed that beating with a fish acted as an aphrodisiac on the groom, helping to have a better wedding night.

8. Food in the toilet

According to the French tradition of "Le Pot de Chambre", guests sent a clean chamber pot to the newlyweds in their room. Alcohol and food from the table were placed in it, which was supposed to help the newlyweds spend a long passionate night.

This tradition continues to this day. A young couple can still be given a toilet as a joke, but more often than not it’s just a dish that resembles it in shape. This “toilet bowl” is usually filled with chocolate fondue or champagne.
