Darwin Award: nominees for the stupidest death (8 photos)
I offer you a selection of completely ridiculous deaths that can easily qualify for the unspoken “Darwin Award”, awarded to those who lost their lives in a stupid way and, therefore, improved the gene pool of humanity.
Who are all these people? For example, Mark Gleeson, who came up with the brilliant idea of putting two female tampons into his nostrils in order to sleep peacefully. Or the man who trained his dog so hard that it inadvertently caused his death.
Became a victim... of a tampon
I’ll tell you one wise thought, guys: you shouldn’t poke your nose into women’s affairs. In 1996, an Englishman, Mark Gleeson, suffering from severe snoring that woke up even himself, decided to resort to an extraordinary way to solve the problem.

It is unknown who gave him this idea; apparently, he came to it on his own. Gleason's brilliant plan was to insert a female tampon into each nostril.
Mark fell asleep, of course, and for some time he was probably glad that he could not hear snoring. Until the moment he suffocated in his sleep. It seems that Mark never sensed that his time had come...
The Fall of Harry Hoy
Harry Hoy was a lawyer working for the law firm Holden Day Wilson in Toronto. But the man became famous not because of his knowledge or skills, but because of his stupid death, which happened on Friday, July 9, 1993.
Still from the film
That day, he tried at all costs to prove to a group of students who were interning at his company that the windows of the Toronto Dominion Center do not break.
In a sense, he was right, the windows in this building were indeed very strong, but it is unlikely that the builders who once installed them thought that someone would try to knock them out deliberately, using all the force they had. Alas, during Harry’s next attempt to prove that glass does not break, one of them jumped out of the frame, and 38-year-old Hoy fell with it from the 24th floor.
Death in a trash can
One night, an 18-year-old resident of Luxembourg was returning home. The day before, he and his friends sat at a bar, where they drank too much alcohol. Realizing that he would not be able to get home, and it was cold outside and it was starting to rain, he decided to take refuge in... one of the garbage containers.
He seems to have completely forgotten that garbage trucks drive through the city at dawn to empty all the garbage cans in the city. As a result, at about 6 o'clock in the morning, the young man was loaded into the back of one of the garbage trucks.
Loading a garbage container
After dumping the contents of the tank into the cargo compartment of the car, workers heard cries for help. But the design of the machine is such that in this case even an immediate stop of the press, which compresses the garbage, did not help. The arriving ambulance doctors only confirmed the man’s death.
Waiting for a friend...
What do you do when you are waiting in the car for someone who has gone shopping? Do you solve crossword puzzles? Or are you dozing? Well, Paul Stiller and his wife apparently decided to kill time...by committing suicide.
It happened in the town of Andover. Bored in their car after waiting for a friend for half an hour, the couple came up with nothing better than to light a huge firecracker and throw it out the window to watch it go off.
History is silent about what kind of firecracker it was, but it was probably quite dangerous. The first part of their plan went well and they set it on fire. Only the couple forgot one detail: the windows in the car were closed. Unfortunately, they never had time to open the doors and jump out... It all ended in their death.
"Confused"
You've most likely heard more than once that a mobile phone is a formidable weapon in the hands of a person who can hurt... in his own words. And in this case, everything happened literally.
47-year-old Charles Barger died in his sleep, but not in the way one might have expected... The fact is that this man was famous for his vigilance and therefore always kept a pistol on his bedside table.
Beretta pistol
One day, while he was sleeping, his phone rang. Wanting to answer, Charles sleepily grabbed the gun, thinking it was his phone. Of course, you guessed how the challenge ended? A shot was fired and the man died on the spot.
Death while jogging
We are always told that sport is good for health, and it is difficult to argue with that. But for a stockbroker from San Francisco, the craving for a healthy lifestyle turned fatal.
Wanting to look fit, he jogged around the park every day, but one day the man decided to diversify his route and chose to jog along a steep ravine.
What could be better than a morning run?
It seems that he was distracted for a split second, tripped and fell down from a height of almost 60 meters. Alas, the man did not survive, and now you have a good excuse to avoid morning runs. Sport, as you see, sometimes kills.
Too obedient dog
This is what happens when you train your dog too hard. In Alaska, a man taught his dog to fetch a thrown stick and was very happy about it. But his joy was short-lived.
History is silent about why he decided that day to take a stick of dynamite and throw it into the frozen lake. Only the man overlooked the fact that he had a dog with him, which he had recently taught to fetch an abandoned stick.
Therefore, when the dog’s owner threw some object onto the ice, man’s tailed friend understood it in his own way and rushed after him. The pet had learned his lesson too well and wanted to return the item to the man as soon as possible. Although the dog probably wondered why the owner was running away from it. In general, you can easily imagine what happened next...
