One day, a psychology professor named Stanley Coren decided to find out which dog is the smartest and most capable of learning. He conducted a number of studies and also interviewed dog training judges and dog handlers in the United States and Canada. Long work with data allowed the professor to draw valuable conclusions and share them with the world.

In 1994, Stanley Coren published the book The Intelligence of Dogs. It became a bestseller, went through 16 editions and was translated into 26 languages. In it, the author divided dogs into groups based on their abilities to master commands and solve problems posed by humans. The group with the least learning abilities included dogs, which needed about 100 repetitions to learn a command. A total of six such groups were identified. In the selection we will present the latter, which has outstanding training abilities. These dogs only need 1-15 repetitions to master a new skill.

American Cocker Spaniel – 20th place

Breton epañol – 19th place

Miniature Schnauzer - 18th place

Also in eighteenth position are the English Cocker Spaniel and the Flat-Coated Retriever.

Kurzhaar - 17th place

German Spitz (Keeshond) - 16th place

The sixteenth position was also shared by the short-haired and long-haired collie.

Schipperke - 15th place

Belgian Shepherd (Tervuren) – 14th place

English Springer Spaniel – 13th place

Miniature Schnauzer - 12th place

In his study, the author notes that relatively recently bred dog breeds are more trainable than ancient ones.

Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) – 11th place

Places 10 to 1 are occupied by dogs with excellent learning abilities. They only need up to 5 repetitions of a command to completely remember and learn it.

Australian Cattle Dog - 10th place

Rottweiler - 9th place

Papillon - 8th place

Labrador Retriever - 7th place

Sheltie - 6th place

Doberman - 5th place

Golden Retriever – 4th place

German Shepherd – 3rd place

Poodle - 2nd place

Border Collie – 1st place

The Border Collie deservedly takes first place in the ranking. This is the smartest dog in the world according to Koren's scale. She is a champion in agility, freestyle, flyball, and Frisbee. The animal has a lightning-fast reaction speed, excellent memory and motivation for continuous exercise. When getting such a dog, the owner must be ready to devote all his free time to it.
