But when fear, with its little icy paws, runs down the back, touches the back of the head and seeps into an unknown area, which everyone considers for himself to be the seat of the soul, then it can plunge the whole city into an abyss of panic.





The story that happened in a place with the unpronounceable name Ocozocoautla de Espinosa (colloquially Coita) - a city and municipality in the Mexican state of Chiapas, serves as clear evidence of this.

Werewolves from Mexican Coita



In 2019, something terrible was happening in the Mexican city of Coita. Residents reported that they did not want to leave their homes after dark. There have been several reports of someone or something following them on the streets at night.

What made this night stalker especially terrifying was that he did not look human. Strange messages caused panic among the residents, and the howling sounds made by this creature haunted people all night. But it wasn't just strange noises that kept residents in fear: some came face to face with what was outside.

The descriptions, if they can be trusted, confirm that there was at least one werewolf in Koita. The creature's height was about 2 meters, it could jump up to three meters in height. An unpleasant odor emanated from the creature, and it was also known that the strange creature was immune to bullets - it openly wanted to sneeze on them.

According to some reports, a mysterious beast was seen walking on the roofs of houses. Some residents even tried to catch the werewolf, but were unsuccessful, often injuring themselves, which is to be expected when climbing rooftops at night.

For many nights, residents heard the wolf howl of this creature and saw shadows in the night. However, no one managed to catch the beast.

Visions of the Beast





There are many testimonies from people who witnessed werewolf attacks from Koita. The descriptions of all witnesses remained unchanged. According to eyewitnesses, the werewolf was a large, tall creature capable of jumping high. A vile smell emanated from it, and every time the animal was nearby, the dogs began to choke on barking.

According to one of the witnesses, she and her friends were sitting by the fire. Suddenly they heard something approaching them. However, the women could not see the creature clearly because the smoke from the fire was too thick. Suddenly the creature pounced.

People tried to defend themselves with weapons, but the creature disappeared into the darkness. Subsequently discovered footprints indicated that the mysterious night visitor had very large feet, much larger than human ones.

Another eyewitness was a patrolman named Alfonso. On the night of April 10, 2020, Alfonso and three police officers received a call from the Barrio Nuevo area of ​​Coita. For several days, local residents complained of hearing howling at night. Some people have even reported seeing werewolves from Koita.

However, this was the first time the police department had become involved in the investigation, and when officers arrived in the area to check, Alfonso noticed something. According to his later testimony, the creature could jump over a two-meter fence in one jump. They even saw how the creature, not without grace, wandered across the rooftops.

Another witness reported seeing a strange creature on his roof. Later in the morning, he photographed the tracks. Another resident, living in a small ranch outside the city, reported that he shot one of the werewolves. However, to the man's surprise, the bullets did not cause any harm to the creature of darkness, and it escaped.

Werewolves or something else?



No records or actual images of werewolves from Koita exist. The lack of hard evidence has raised doubts about whether their existence is even real. There were rumors that mobile phones and cameras began to fail as soon as the strange creature approached people. Among the evidence available were photographs and videos of blood and foot prints.

Several theories have emerged related to werewolves in Koita. One of the logical explanations for the rumors was that the sounds that people heard were very real, real and earthly.

This is due to the presence of nature reserves in Koita, which are home to many species of animals. Jaguars, bats, owls, ocelots and spider monkeys could all cause eyewitnesses to become confused in the dark.

Another popular theory was that strange werewolves lived in the nearby forest surrounding Mount Meyapak.

One theory that became quite popular was that the werewolf was a young adherent of nahualism, the Mexican belief that people can turn into animals. According to this theory, the initiate was transformed into an animal, but was unable to return to his original human form. Therefore, it was believed that the nahual was seeking help to return to his true form.

Nahualism comes from an ancient tradition that emerged in several indigenous cultures in the region. The Nahual is believed to be a person with special abilities to change his form from human to animal. A person who has the ability to transform into a nahual usually does so at night.

The Nahuali were considered figures who tried to maintain order in the communities. They are even associated with respect for nature and are known for only attacking those who deserve it.
