There are many stories on the Internet, but stories involving our little brothers always evoke the most emotions. Since the beginning of this year, animals have made several big headlines, stories and discoveries. Let's take a look at the most memorable and important!

1. An unusual New Zealand airport visitor

On January 12, an Air Chathams pilot noticed a blue penguin on the runway a few minutes before takeoff at Wellington Airport in New Zealand. The pilot and passengers waited patiently for airport staff to help this cute creature and remove it from the runway. Following the incident, the penguin was taken to Wellington Zoo for examination and veterinary care. Fortunately, everything is fine with him - he just got lost. After this, special fences were installed at the airport to prevent the penguins from entering the territory.

2. The dog saved the drowning deer

A black Labrador retriever rescued a little fawn that was in trouble and nearly drowned in a river. The dog carefully took the animal and pulled it out of the water onto the shore. A real hero!

3. Northern white rhinos can be saved!

There are only two female northern white rhinos left in the entire world. This species is considered extinct, but scientists recently discovered that the population can be saved using IVF. They successfully transferred the embryo into a surrogate mother, a female southern white rhinoceros, a major breakthrough in science. Now scientists hope to repeat the procedure to try to save the extinct species.

4. Unusual baby shark

Filmmaker Carlos Gauna and UC doctoral student Philippe Sternes were tracking sharks near Santa Barbara, California, when they spotted a baby shark unlike any seen before. The cub was completely white, and experts could not understand who was in front of them. But upon closer inspection, it turned out that this was a newborn baby great white shark - at this age they are extremely rarely seen in the ocean.

5. A sudden visit from an owl

A family from the American state of Connecticut discovered an owl on their shelf with board games. She entered the house through the chimney, and it is unknown how long she remained in the room. Animal rescuers quickly picked her up and took care of her. At the moment, the owl is feeling great and, according to rescuers, it will soon be released.

6. Marsupial mice die due to the need to reproduce quickly

By the end of the mating season, all male marsupial mice die from internal bleeding and infections. Females live for some time and manage to raise their cubs, after which they also die. This is due to the fact that these individuals have to reproduce within a short period of time. They even sacrifice sleep and stay awake due to the need to mate. That's it - all in the name of love and procreation.

7. Escaped macaque from the park

On January 28, a Japanese macaque escaped from Cairngorm National Park in Scotland. Park staff deployed thermal imaging drones to help locate the elusive animal. Local residents first noticed the macaque stealing food from bird feeders and running around the small town of Kingussie. After a five-day search, the fugitive was finally caught and brought back. He's now back in the park and doing well - but his adventure was definitely a success.
