Some people may think that botany is a boring activity. What could be interesting about leaves and roots? But that was not the case. Botany is not limited to what a person sees in everyday life. There is an incredible number of plant species in the world, interesting not only in themselves, but also for individual representatives that have achieved record sizes. 
Could you imagine that somewhere in a southern country the largest flower with one of the most rotten aromas grows? This is something you won’t see in everyday life, so we suggest looking at the photographs of these record holders!
Largest tree by volume 
"General Sherman" is a giant sequoia that is known for its immensity (11 m in diameter), although it is not small in height (83.8 m).
The largest inflorescence 
Amorphophallus titanum is the largest plant with an unbranched inflorescence (record weight - 91 kg). It is of Indonesian origin, but is currently grown mainly in botanical gardens.
The smallest flower 
Balanophora (Balanophora involucrata) lives in the Himalayas and is a capitate inflorescence with myriads of tiny flowers, each of which is only 25 microns wide.
The largest branched inflorescence 
Corypha umbrella palm, or tallipot palm, grows up to 25 m in height and up to a meter in diameter, and its leaves are up to 6 m in diameter and three in height. You can see it in India and Sri Lanka.
The heaviest and largest fruit 
In 2021, a record was registered for the heaviest vegetables. It was installed by a pumpkin grown by Stefano Cutrupi from Italy. Hulk weight - 1226 kg
The longest plant among vines 
Entada (Entada rheedii) reaches 120 m in length and almost a meter in width. In Africa, its seeds are used for food.
The smallest inflorescence 
The length of the wild buckwheat flower (Eriogonum parishii) is only 0.6 mm, it includes 3 sepals, 3 petals, 3 stamens and a pistil of three carpels.
The smallest and lightest fruit 
The two smallest species of Wolffia, Australian (Wolffia angusta) and Asian-African (Wolffia globosa), are only 0.30 mm long and weigh 70 µg.
The longest flower 
Grandiflora flower, or pelican flower (Aristolochia grandiflora), reaches 51 cm in width and 3-4 m in length. Distributed in southern Mexico, Central America and the West Indies.
The biggest seed 
The Seychelles palm, or ludoica, has the largest seed in the plant kingdom, reaching about 30 cm in length and weighing up to 18 kg.
The largest berry 
The heaviest and largest berry was a watermelon grown by Christopher Kent from the USA in 2013. The record has still not been broken and is 159 kg.
The biggest flower 
The corpse flower, or giant padma (Rafflesia arnoldii), grows up to 1.5 m in diameter and weighs 10-12 kg, and also exudes a disgusting smell of decaying flesh. It grows in the forests of Sumatra (Indonesia).
