Scientists have found that cats themselves start a game with a person and finish it themselves. That is, they decide for themselves when and what to play, using a person only as entertainment for themselves. Or maybe they think they have to play with us. The study was published by the journal Scientific Reports.



Almost a thousand owners of 1,154 cats took part in the survey. Participants noted that cats tend to play by fetching objects. Most cats (94%) were not taught this game; they learned it themselves. Interestingly, only 24% of all cats lived in a home with a dog from whom they would learn to fetch objects. The rest learned it themselves. Many cats (61%) began fetching toys when they were still young kittens.



According to the survey results, in most cases the cats started the game themselves and finished it themselves. This suggests that cats control the games they play with humans. Naive owners think that they are playing with the cat, but in fact it is the pet playing with its owner.
