For birds in winter, hunger is worse than cold. When it's cold, it's harder for them to find food and it takes more energy to fly. There are many compassionate citizens who want to feed the birds. However, it is important to do this correctly so as not to harm the birds. 
Well, November is coming to an end, the streets are shrouded in cold, and somewhere it’s already snowing. This all means that it’s time to help our feathered comrades who are not migratory! Their already poor autumn diet became poorer, the number of dishes was significantly reduced compared to the summer abundance. Therefore, uncover the feeders, open the bins - the bird restaurant is starting to work!

But before we move directly to the menu, we need to mention a couple of very important nuances. The first is that if you start feeding the birds, then you should do it regularly, every day, or as you eat the treats in the feeder. The bird, knowing that something tasty often appears here, will save energy and will not go to look for food in another place. By the time she realizes that the owner of the shop has decided to make a profit one day, she will lose at least half of the daylight hours and will remain half-starved. And in winter the days are short. Lost time in it means lost satiety and minus 100 to survival.

Secondly, if you start feeding the birds, then you need to do this until spring! Not only until March, but until normal warmth, when insects appear and everything is covered with greenery. The reason is simple - there is nowhere for new food to come from! Everything available was cleaned up in winter, the earth is still cold and empty, ready to give birth to something new. Insects without plants, accordingly, are also still very few. It happens that all the cold season a bird hangs on and on, finds something somewhere, lives, and in the spring dies, finding itself in this unhappy period without greenery.
Now you can move on to the food!

Everything is pretty easy here. Let's start with the simplest and most affordable - millet and sunflower seeds. Not salted, not fried - everything is raw and unrefined! On naked seeds, fatty acids are oxidized, which negatively affect the digestive system of birds - the birds are simply poisoned. The same applies to peeled millet - you can’t put millet in! Otherwise, you can add oats, wheat, pumpkin and flax seeds, also raw, to the seeds. And for dessert, offer the birds dried berries, for example, rowan or hawthorn.

Of the nuts, you can offer hazelnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts or, if you are a major, walnuts. All of the above are very nutritious due to their high fat content. Tits and jays will be happy with such treats! But if you can’t spend money on nuts, add unsalted lard – it’s also an excellent fat-replenisher.
And yes, everything described here must be of proper quality! Not spoiled, not rancid. Otherwise, it is dangerous for both you and the birds equally. 
If you don't know where to buy all the types of seeds you need, you can go to a pet store. They sell special mixtures for forest birds, which you can safely use to feed birds!
Now let’s talk about what you shouldn’t put in the feeder! First of all, these are bakery products. They are rich in yeast, but poor in other beneficial microelements. Not nutritious or healthy. In addition, due to the sticky structure, bread can be dangerous for the bird’s gastrointestinal tract - it will simply clog the crop. 
Thanks for the shelter! But we don't need bread. Better pour some seeds!
All your other food from the table goes with this. Sausage, cheese, chips and candy are all joy for our human tummy, but for birds it will only give sores.
