A selection of foreign films that were criticized in the media by the famous actors who starred in them.

Self-criticism is a useful thing, but in the world of big cinema it is not customary to criticize your own films. There are not only ethical, but also contractual obligations, and there is a risk that large studios may send especially talkative and dissatisfied actors to the shadow ban and no longer attract them. Moreover, when an actor criticizes a film with his participation, he does not always complain about his mistake, but rather points out the shortcomings of the director, screenwriters and producers. And this is somehow unprofessional.

Nevertheless, there are cases when famous actors have not veiledly sunk their specific films in the media.

Brad Pitt

Doesn't like the movie The Devil's Own (1997). Already during the making of the film, the actor was dissatisfied with the changed script, but starred in it due to contractual obligations. The second star of the film was Harrison Ford.

By the way, among his favorite projects from his own filmography, Pitt suddenly singled out the biographical western “How the Coward Robert Ford Killed Jesse James” (2007).

Jim carrey

He criticized the film “Kick-Ass 2” (2013) for excessive cruelty and refused to participate in its promotion.

Jessica Alba

She wanted to quit her acting career after starring in the films Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Quote from the actress:

I hated filming. I just hated it. I remember acting out the death of my character in Surfer. The director said: “It looks too real. Too painful. Can you be more beautiful when you cry? Cry beautifully, Jessica"

Ryan Reynolds

Together with the whole world, he laughs at the film “Green Lantern” (2011). In 2023, the actor admitted what he felt like watching the film at the premiere:

It was crazy. Strange feeling. It was not a feeling I would like to repeat

Colin Farrell

He openly said that he did not like the crime thriller Miami Vice (2006), arguing that in the Michael Mann film with his participation style prevails over substance.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

No, this is not Conan the Barbarian, but the fantasy film Red Sonja (1985) released three years later. Here's what Arnie himself says:

This is the worst film I've ever made. When my kids misbehave, they are sent to their rooms and forced to watch Red Sonja 10 times. That's why I never had any problems with them

George Clooney

Of course, the actor's biggest regret is Batman & Robin (1997). He even admitted that he considered himself guilty that the film incarnation of this comic book hero was so disgraced that no one would take on him again. That was until Batman Begins in 2005.

I actually thought I had ruined the franchise until others brought it back a few years later. At the time, I thought it would be a very good career move. But that was not the case.

Ben Affleck

The actor does not like the film Daredevil (2003). According to him, the film did not work in any way, and this is still a mild formulation - Affleck added that he would have expressed it more strongly if he wanted to make some noise in the media.

Channing Tatum

Openly criticizes the action film "Throw of Cobra" (2009).

I'll be honest, I fucking hate this movie. I was forced to act in it. The script was no good

Oh, the plight of Hollywood actors.

Mark Wahlberg

Calls M. Night Shyamalan's thriller The Happening (2008) a bad film. In addition, right during a press conference dedicated to the film “The Fighter” (2010), he told actress Amy Adams, who could star in “The Happening,” that she “dodged a bullet.”

Jennifer Lawrence

She talked about how she regrets participating in the film “Passengers” (2016). The funny thing is that the actress was dissuaded by the singer Adele.

Adele advised me not to do this! She said, “I think space movies are the new vampire movies.” I should have listened to her. It was all like a rebound effect. I was constantly reacting to something rather than playing.

Viola Davis

The actress managed to criticize the film, for which she received an Oscar nomination. We are talking about the extremely successful drama “The Help” (2011). The actress complained about the vagueness of the film's message, which, in her opinion, never revealed “what it was like to work for white people and raise children in 1963.”

Now the floor is yours, which actor do you disagree with? Which of the following films did you like?
