We have all seen more than once how the main character escapes from prison in a movie. Often it looks so implausible that you just want to say: “I don’t believe it!” It doesn’t happen like that.” You will be very surprised, but in life sometimes everything can be much more twisted than in the movies. And today I want to talk about such unimaginable prison escapes.

Escape in Mom's Truck

On April 11, 1998, inmate Jay Sigler, who had already served 8 years of his 20-year sentence, stood in the courtyard of the Everglade Correctional Facility and waited for visitors to arrive. And they really arrived. We arrived in a huge truck, which crushed 4 prison fences like paper.

The driver and passengers then opened fire with shotguns at prison security. Then a truck drove into the prison grounds, driven by Jay's mother, Sandra. The man, without thinking twice, jumped into it, and it took off. To get rid of the tail, Jay and his mother changed cars twice and eventually managed to escape. But it didn't last long. The next day, news of the escaped criminal spread throughout the state. It's no surprise that when Jay and his mother walked into the store, they were recognized. The unlucky couple tried to drive as far away from him as possible, but crashed into a car and were arrested. Shortly thereafter, Sanda Sigler testified against her son in order to reduce her prison sentence.

Escape with dental floss

Vincenzo Curzio was a murderer, but not an ordinary one, but a member of the Sicilian mafia. He should have been prosecuted. But on March 17, 2000, he managed to escape from his prison in the Italian city of Turin. Vincenzo sawed through the bars using regular dental floss! The fact is that the prison building was built in the mid-1970s, when the underground terrorist group “Red Brigades” operated in the country. Therefore, the gratings were made of special soft steel, which should not produce a large number of fragments during an explosion. Well, the fact that such soft gratings can be easily sawed through apparently did not occur to anyone.

Escape of criminal craftsmen

On January 3, 1995, three prisoners escaped from the English prison "Parkhurst". The tools they made themselves helped them with this. In the prison's sheet metal stamping shop, the trio were able to assemble not only a ladder long enough to climb over a fence, but also create a working pistol and a master key. The fact that they managed to cut out this key is simply incredible, considering that the fugitives made it from memory, after seeing a similar key on the prison guard. On the day of the escape, the fugitives hid in the gym, and when no one was around, they opened the back door of the room, went outside, cut a hole in the inner fence and climbed over the outer fence using a ladder. Their plan could be called ideal, if not for one “but”. When the criminals got out of the prison, it turned out that they were on an island and had nowhere to run.

The Great Escape

Stalag Luft No. 3 was a concentration camp for the German military during World War II. It mainly housed Allied pilots. It was believed that it was impossible to escape from it. That was until English prisoner Roger Bushel, along with 600 other prisoners of war, began to develop an escape plan. According to this plan, three separate tunnels, 9 meters deep, were dug to prevent microphones from seismographs installed along the perimeter of the fences. After this, on March 24, 1944, the great escape began. Of the 200 people who managed to escape, 76 prisoners were directly involved in organizing the escape. Unfortunately, only 3 of them actually managed to break free; all the rest were soon recaptured.

Helicopter escape

Prisoner Pascal Payet has just begun serving his 30-year sentence in prison, but he has already begun to develop a daring plan to escape from a prison located in the French city of Luynes. On October 12, 2001, his friend hijacked a helicopter and landed it right in the prison yard. Pascal jumped into the helicopter and was the only one they saw. Yes, it sounds incredible, but he managed to escape by helicopter. But the man did not remain free for long. After 2 years, Pascal was again in prison. He again decided to try his luck and escape from prison again. But this time he was not alone, there were 3 more prisoners with him. True, they were all soon found and put behind bars again. In 2007, four masked men hijacked another helicopter, and again Pascal was free! And, of course, he was soon caught again. This time Pascal was imprisoned in such a way that no one knows where exactly he is,

Escape of the Texas Seven

On December 13, 2000, seven prisoners managed to escape from a maximum security prison. They managed to disarm and capture 16 people, including officers, civilian support workers, and three prisoners not involved in the escape. Dressed in civilian clothes, three prisoners stunned the unsuspecting guards while the remaining four criminals called the guard towers and thus distracted the guards from monitoring the prison gates. In the end, the seven managed to steal a prison truck and use it to drive out the back gate. So these prisoners escaped from prison. But, as we already know, people like to try their luck. Just two weeks later, the group robbed a sporting goods store. After this, the seven were included in the list of the country's most wanted criminals and were soon detained

Frank Abagnale's Escape

Frank Abagnale was sentenced to 12 years in prison for various crimes. When he was transported from the detention center to the courthouse, it turned out that the federal marshal transporting him forgot to take the necessary papers for the prisoner. Knowing that this happens very rarely, the cunning Frank took advantage of the marshal's mistake and was able to convince the guards that he was an undercover prison inspector working for the FBI. Incredibly, the guards allowed the man to go outside the doors to supposedly meet with the agent, but in fact with Frank's accomplice. In general, the man left and never returned. By the way, it was his life story that formed the basis of the autobiography “Catch Me If You Can,” on which director Steven Spielberg based his film of the same name.
